Hi folks

This is what the Nildram control panel says;

Maximum stable rate 7968Kbps
Line speed 7968Kbps
Fault threshold 5555Kbps
Maximum Product Line Speed: upto 8Mbps
VPI 0
VCI 38
PPP Type/Encapsulation PPPoA (PPP over ATM)
Framing VC-MUX
Modulation/Mode G.DMT

My router page says;

Type Fast
Status No Defect
Data rate 8128 448
Noise margin 7.8 20.0
Output power 19.8 12.0
Attenuation 24.0 12.0

It was activated on the 20th April, so should it be stable now? The noise margin does go down a bit at night I have noticed.

I lost connection in BF2 last night after about half an hour, I can't be doing with that happening much, was that because of ADSL MAX?

you could try that but tbh the biggest thing that affects signal to noise is the line make sure the router is attached to the master socket

It is mate right next to master socket with no extensions.

I might get a Netgear DG834PN 108Mbps Rangemax Wireless ADSL2 Modem/Router/Switch/Firewall

Thing is... it probably won't help at all.

ADSL Max doesn't limit sync rates, it set SNR targets. So if you improve your SNR, then all that'll happen is the router'll sync at a higher rate. The SNR margin should remain unchanged.

If it's dropping, there's some random noise burst on the line that is too much for that SNR margin to cover up. The 10 day training should pick up on frequent disconnects and increase the target margin. If that time's past, then you're probably stuck with it.

I asked F2S to request another 1-2dB to be added to the target margin, but I haven't had any luck. Still disconnects a once every now and then - not a huge problem though.

Im thinking of going to Nildram max next, is it any good? the Broadband 2 up to 8 meg £25.99 option. Are download speeds good?

I've heard very good things about Nildram. Be warned that they have been bought out by Pipex though - F2S got traffic shaping shortly after they were bought out, but Nildram don't seem to have changed much... yet.

There not very good so far no, no better than Plusnet.

In fact, with Plusnet I didnt drop out of BF2 with connection problems...!

So we shall see...

Nothing to do with Nildram though. The beauty of ADSL Max - everyone gets to experience a marginal connection!

I've been synced at 8128kbps with Nildram for over 3 weeks now and still seem to have a 2Mbps cap, I did see some 500-600kb/s Torrent downloads at one stage but it didn't last long.

My exchange is congested, sometimes i get 2Mb, other times i can get as high as 7Mb

It seems to average at about 3-4 though

I dont get any disconnects though, and im using the Belkin 7633

Nildram

I wonder if my disconnecting from BF2 is due to having all settings on MAX, but only 1GB of ram...?

I've got my 2nd stick arriving tommorow, the other 1GB Was faulty so had to RMA it and couldnt be bothered to change the settings down as I dont play it often! (twice a week!)

Im getting the same problems and with Nildram, but Im still in the first 10 days.

However, the connection will timeout and drop ONLY when I am playing CSS online, it never happens otherwise. My exchange is also congested apparently although it wasnt a few days ago :/

I've got a few freinds on Nildram Max who are having problems. Three weeks after it started and its stil not stable. Not sure of there line stats so that might be the reason, but there constant logging on and off of msn is getting very annoying!

SeanyK: BF2 what is the network setting at? Set it at the lowest. As you don't have a corporate lan connection.

Think ADSL Max is just not stable across the board, not any ISP inparticular.

Router really doesn't make much difference, just the master socket.

Even then i think there will be a rash of firmware upgrades for routers in the next few months to help them cope with BT's all over the shop technology called MAX.

Mine disconnects every day at about 1130 ish at night.

I have to turn the router on and off again.

Fed up with it TBH, I was better off with Plusnet, at least it never disconnected.

I bought an ADSL faceplate thing so gonna fit that in the next day or two and see if it helps.

Nildram have been offering to regrade people back to a standard product if they are having too many problems with Max.

What you are describing are typical Max issues not Nildram issues so you mught want to think about a regrade unless you want to wait longer to see if BT get Max sorted.
