*** Show us your bikes! ***

Once I did an oil change on my Hornet. Changing the filter means oil goes all over the downpipes... so I cleaned it all up once done, no problem. Switched the bike on for a bit, checked nothing was leaking etc. did a bit of cleaning, finger brushed the downpipe that previously had oil on it. It sizzled :(

I can confirm you do get sizzle oil or not

That is a very tidy looking Hornet, the exhaust must not be quite as bad as it looks in that picture or else you'd be getting a very very hot leg!

I've seen people use a bit of metal (2" x "2 90 degree) to act as a gutter to catch the oil and transport it away from the downpipes to a bucket

Yup something like that would work. I just didn't have anything suitable at the time. Even a very small/thin pan of the right shape would probably do the trick.
It would sizzle even without oil.

Nah, I had brushed them previously and was nothing more than a bit tender for a few hours. This was something else! :p

lmfy2k - you need a fender extender on there which should help stop dirt going up by the headers where it's difficult to clean. Also, if you can be bothered, shining the downpipes up with some wire wool makes it look even nicer.

Not sure how anyone in their right mind owns a Hornet and only puts 3,800 miles on it!?

I use foil across the down pipes when doing a filter change, worked perfect and no mess.

I have a fender extender, thought I'd take the front fender off but can't get it to come off (yes screws are out), so may have to stick it on in situ,

Got some stuff arrived today to polish the down pipes :) got a pad that fits into a drill and autosol at the ready :)

Oh and exhaust is no where near my leg , I was checking on way home today lol

That hornet looks mint! Even better, you know both owners so you roughly know how they treated it. :p

What are the plans with it? :D

Ahh sorry I meant the previous 2 owners were best mates, they not my mates :)

Plans are done mate, last on list is cleanup down pipes and fit fender extenda and maybe a tail today if I can find one for. 2004 hornet, seems there not many around for it anymore.

I've given the bike a full service, oil and coolant change, all filters, brake fluid change, installed braided hoses, renthals, recovered the seat, fitted rear indies to smarten rear up a little , full brake calipers rebuild and new pads.

That should do me for this year. Nothing else I'd want to do to it right now (famous last words)

Lovely Hornet, they're great bikes had 2 myself in the past.

Thanks mate. :)
