Show us your kitty cats

Hopefully she recovers ok from it, they are keeping her in to make sure her insides are working. Pretty sure I've emptied some of her mess from the litter tray so she's working from that side of things and eating loads.

I adopted Jacob on Sunday.

Was he from a shelter? If so, nice one. Good to see a cat get a good home and a space created to help another cat. You saved two for the price of one :D

Yes, he was a welfare case. Crazy cat lady/hoarder had over 20 cats and wasn't looking after them properly. He had been in the shelter for a few months. No one wanted him either because he was so shy and hid from them, he wasn't as young as the other rescues or those that did want him had kids. They preferred him to go to a quiet home, so they were happy for me to have him as I live alone.

I was worried he'd always be timid around me, but the second night I had him he was coming over for head rubs. He's still quite skittish but I think he'll come round more in time.

Our Archie had been in the shelter for 6 months when we picked him. No idea how as very people-friendly - he loves a knee to sit on for fuss or snoozing.

Lots of treats, and no leaving him alone without letting him see where you've gone should help him gain more confidence, but it might his personality to run first for quite a while whilst he is young.

Nice to hear people using shelters. Poppy was from there too, back twice before us so I'm glad she's still here to be her forever home.

Vet checked her all over and said to keep her from moving so went to get a big dog crate so she can have everything she needs when she's in it. Loxicon in her dinner for a while. I know they don't like litter trays near their bed/food though.

£116 lighter, should have been £160ish but they discount it as they are customers of the bike shop I work in.

I've noticed he'll run away when I first enter the kitchen, where he's confined for the time being. But if I sit and read for a while he'll come and sleep on the chair beside me.

I've let him explore the living room (beside the kitchen), he walked around cautiously meowing a lot. Maybe it was too soon, how do I know when to let him explore more of the house?

Oh and fleas! The vet found a flea dropping and put some Broadline on him (combines frontline, a growth hormone to stop larvae from maturing and a wormer). What's the best way to prevent an infestation? I get itchy just thinking about fleas.

I never did any of the confining them to one area with any of mine. Just brought them home, opened the cat box and off they went. Did the same when I moved house as well. :)

Same when I had a couple of kittens. They had the run of the place from day one. Run being the operative word :)

Same with our two, just let them wander on their own.

They cautiously check every inch of the place!

When we got Oliver we tried to keep them separate for a while to allow Poppy her own space .

We use Advantage flea medication. You can buy it from vetuk.Co.Uk, it's the best none prescription medication we've used. If you find any fleas hopping around the house then obliterate the place with Acclaim spray.

I would confine him away from noisy things for the moment whilst he finds his feet about his surroundings and you. Since he's from the shelter, and you don't know what he's been through so far, it's all a big culture shock to him hence the meowing whilst he explores. Eventually he'll be sitting at the door you come through (more likely trying to barge his way past when the door stops moving), then you can let come with you to other areas (you might want the citrus behavioural spray to keep him off things like chargers and other electrical wires).

Also, just reread, he's been in a shelter and he's possibly got fleas?! Is he even neutered?

Do you work late/long hours? Might be ideal to take time off to babysit.
