I just went out to the car to grab something from the boot, and noticed that the bike was leaning a bit more than usual. It's been outside the back gate all day on its sidestand, where it usually lives. As I wandered over to look, I found a rather large hole in the tarmac with the end of the side stand in it.

The photo doesn't really do it justice, the hole's a fair bit deeper than it looks.

I'd dimly heard of bikes going over because the tarmac's melted under the sidestand, but didn't really believe it could happen.

I guess I'll be sticking it on the centre stand over the summer :)

I carry one of those plastic disc things under my seat just in case I encounter soft surfaces :)

But like you, I wouldn't have expected it from tarmac

Yep this is old news, carry a coaster, bit of timber or a plastic thingy, OK on proper roads not crappy driveways and side streets.

Always carry a plastic sidestand puck when out and about on the bike, they are the future!.

When my Mille is at home it sits with its front wheel in a Bikegrab stand and it's rear up on a paddock stand.

****ing Mille sidestands!

I changed mine for a fireblade one, much better. Stock one was a joke

This happened in our works carpark last year. Someone's brand new Ninja just toppled over in the middle of the afternoon.

Not sure if work paid out or not, but a few weeks later, the tarmac on the bike park was ripped out and concrete put in its place!

They are utterly crap, whoever designed it needs a public flogging. After the hassles I had on the IOM, even when using a plastic puck under it my first job is to get the sidestand sorted out.

Which year of Fireblade do I need the stand from to fit the Mille?
