Thanks for that KaHn lol

Sorry :p

Like I said others do the same, just wanted everything to be clear instead of this grey area at the moment :)

But I do admit its thrown a whole different set of questions about what does actually class as advertising. Hell even I've posted a link to my company website when talking about jobs.

Not sure that anyone on OcUK want to hire a tandam offshore crane for anything like but still lol.

KaHn

Surely it's straight forward. You don't advertise your own business whatever it is, one man photography business is no different from plumbing, IT consultancy or anything else.

If you are discussing photography and link to a site with a portfolio of pictures with no suggestion or onward link to professional services I'm sure you'd be OK.

If during a discussion about professional photography for an upcoming event you link to a page on a site connected to your business that makes it obvious you take professional photos even if it's by a "once you've seen my photo's you might want to look elsewhere on the site or email me if you like what you see, wink, wink" then clearly you are promoting your business through your participation on OCUK.

If you don't want to advertise and just want to discuss the merits of your profession or hobby surely there's no problem just linking to flicker or a site that has no connection or onward link to a business.

On the other hand I'd be surprised if the mods would object if during a "can anyone recommend a photographer" thread someone else suggesting the OP contacts you directly.

Common sense > arguing semantics in an attempt to get round the rules.

Actually, I have a question.

What if I redo my site and post it to ask for critique ?
Well, that a rather different context isn't it.

Unless of course you mysteriously repost a a link to your business site every week asking for another "critique" from people who just happen to be looking for a photographer (as of course you would value their input) ;)

Shame that a £5 a year subscription isn't offered for business users, works well on another forum I browse.

I like the idea but that would be Spie's call.

Come again? Not sure what that means exactly, other than the fact its not the forum posters forum etc

Apologies for not being very clear.

As already mentioned linking or promoting a business regardless of it being computer related or 'Joe Bloggs Curry house' down the road it's not allowed.

99% of the time if you want to advertise your business you have to pay, so why should OcUK allow you advertise for free?

I do like Tefal's idea about buying yourself a banner ad :D
