has anyone used a SiI3132 silicon image chipset based pci-express 2 port sata card before? wanted to know how reliable and stable they are for adding 2 extra hard drives to a system. card wont be used for any raid setup, just need the extra ports.

SiI3132 chipset based cards seem to go real cheapo for under 15 quid. silicon image is a name iv heard before in the storage controller department but was hoping to see if anyone has had hands on experience with them before.

I've used some of their older controllers 3114's for example in various builds over the last 5 years or so & not yet come across any issues that actually ended up being attributed to the controller. Silicon Image are a MASSIVE company when it comes to IC's & controllers card etc, their firmware/drivers for their current products are frequently updated so I'd say on balance give 'em a whirl.

yep been using a sil3132 card now for a week its awsome, even better than the ich9r controller i have onboard. very good card which is well worth the ten quid. will consider getting more of these in the new year for other machines.

Used one in a build for a mate, mirroring (RAID1) two 1TB drives. Performance seemed fine and no problems with setup under Win7.
