Siliconslave's how to make espresso thread

I come seeking wisdom before venturing too far down the wrong path.

I moved to a bottomless portafilter (51mm) the moment I knew what I was doing - upgrade, but it was a cheapie and took 16g at a squeeze.
I recently got myself a "16-18g" verybarista IMS Precision basket and noticed I was getting less channeling. Cool.
I then moved up from a 16g dose to 18g and noticed a drastic improvement in the taste of my small lattes and occasional cortado. Yay!
The temptation is now to move to the "verybarista IMS Precision Competition Series 20-25g" basket - would it just be "moar" or do things get more difficult in terms of channeling, dialling in the grind etc? A 20-25g dose in a 51mm portafilter seems...a lot.
 
That is a lot. With that much coffee in a 51mm portafilter you’re stepping into Lance Hedrick deep espresso puck territory and the shot will taste different because of the very different bed depth.
 
I've only tried their Chocolate Brownie Blend which I've ordered a couple of times but that one does sound an interesting blend. The owner has a youtube channel called Coffee Kev. I usually rotate between them and Hormozi.
