Ive not seen it posted but I have actually come up with an idea like that before by using my camera strap.. His idea is much better, using the camera thread with a bolt is just great.

Yeah course it works. You are anchoring down the camera to the floor and pulling it upwards with your body stopping it from wafting in the air. Its not as good as a tripod obviously but for general snaps its a good way to gain a couple of extra stops of stabilization
