Singing when you're winning, quiting when you're losing

I play games for fun and entertainment. Mostly either MMO or tactical ArmA2. The thrill of achieving a goal (or failing) as a team and working closely together. Particularly rewarding when the fight is hard won or perhaps previously failed and as a team you work out a new strategy/approach/structure to finally get that sweet ass victory.

If i don't want to work with a team. I play a single player game.

It's more a problem with the system then the users. Provide stat tracking and a way to abuse it then of course it will be abused. A game that gets this right is Starcraft 2, you won't see any rage quitting in that game because it has a good system to prevent it.

More so in battlefield than other fps. Kdr is the least important thing in the world. Back in bf2 I could have happily gone 12-25 still get best medic, best flag attack and many times best squad when there was only 2 of us. Playing the objective and keeping your team not just squad alive came before killing the enemy.

Shame bf3 isnt like that. Everything has such little recoil the days of charging out to revive people under fire are long gone

Realistically how often does that happen though?

In my experience it depends on which game you are playing. I find Super Monday Night Combat drops me out at least once or twice per week.

There are also times when people have to stop playing due to IRL factors.

However, that seems to be far less common than people simply quitting because they or their team are falling behind. I've seen many people quit out of the lobby of SMNC - which is a real pain for the remaining players!

I believe that as part of it's match making process SMNC now factors in quitting. If you have a high quit rating you are going to be put in a match with other people with a high quit rate.

Also, if you quit a match you can only rejoin the match you were in until that match is over - you cannot join other matches.

I don't mind surrendering if I have obviously lost. Better that than drag a hopeless match out. But simply quitting to preserve score is bad sportsmanship, IMo.

Hnnnnnnnnng BF2 flashbacks.

Online gaming just encourages people to act like dicks unfortunately... and the less time these kids spend in the real world the less likely their abhorrent behavior will change.
