Right. I had a great day.
Some news about the Vulcan first off.
- They have the money to fly!
- They would still like more to keep her in the air over the next 10-15 years
- Operating costs are approximately £1.4million per year
- Flight costs are £10k per hour in fuel.
- She will spend at least the fist year in her current colourscheme. After the first year it's a possibility that it will be changed. *Nuclear flash white for me please!*
Now onto the more interesting stuff.
- Starboard wing is all wired and ready to accept the engines.
- Port side will be ready soon.
- Mod 2222 will be done soon. They're honing the bolt holes ready for the bolts to go through.
- Fuel tanks are in.
- Engines will be in by December 14th
- New instrument layout has been finalised and will not be the original Vulcan layout. Over $28k of new flight electronics.
- Due to all the old and unneeded kit removed the CofG will be different. However a lot of the kit will be repalced with concrete forms to restore the CofG
- The weight in wire thats been removed from the cockpit alone is 3500lbs!
- In total the amount of weight removed so far is estimated to be in the region of 10 tons!
- They have 8 brand spanking new engines. Thats it - no more.
- They will run them in slower than the Military - 5 days per set of 4 estimated
- No rapid start system yet - it's a very complicated system - this is a possibility for the later years though. They decided to remove it for ease of restoration at this time.
- There will be only 2 test flights hopefully. 1st will be a 15min flight. 2nd will be a 40min flight. Then the aircraft will be passed over to the VOC for handling of the aircraft.
- If there's any issues, there will be a 3rd test flight.
- Heres what you all want to know. FIRST FLIGHT - MAY '07
- Crew is reduced from 5 to 3. However when operating from somewhere other than Bruntingthorpe all 5 seats will be in use when ferrying the aircraft.
- There will be 2 displays crews. Including the Captain from the Black Buck 1 mission. He can't bloody wait.
- There will be an event at Brintingthorpe on June 17th which will be invite only.
Can't think of anything else at the moment.
