Went to see the Vulcan at the weekend on a members only day. :D

On the way out the sun was setting and I went past the Sir Frank Whittle memorial in the middle of a roundabout in Lutterworh. Just had to stop and take some photo's.

Full size replica of the Whittle E.28/39 on a pole.

Orderd a couple in A2 to see what they are like.

Nice capture on the second one, really like it. Do you know if the vulcan will be flying the airshows next year? Would love to see it fly, theres a rusting one at an aircraft museum close to where I live in Sunderland, such shame to see a great airplane in this state.

XL319 isn't a bad Vulcan - I've seen worse. Blackpool was dreadful and thankfully is no more. Sadly I reckon that in 5 years or so there will be very few surviving Vulcans outside.

We could lose 2 in the next couple of months. :( XM603 is going shortly, XM607 could be shortly after that as well.

But, anything that can be salvaged for XH558, is being salvaged for her.

Copied and pasted from another forum I post in...

Right. I had a great day. :D

Some news about the Vulcan first off.

  1. They have the money to fly!
  2. They would still like more to keep her in the air over the next 10-15 years
  3. Operating costs are approximately £1.4million per year
  4. Flight costs are £10k per hour in fuel.
  5. She will spend at least the fist year in her current colourscheme. After the first year it's a possibility that it will be changed. *Nuclear flash white for me please!*

Now onto the more interesting stuff.

  1. Starboard wing is all wired and ready to accept the engines.
  2. Port side will be ready soon.
  3. Mod 2222 will be done soon. They're honing the bolt holes ready for the bolts to go through.
  4. Fuel tanks are in.
  5. Engines will be in by December 14th
  6. New instrument layout has been finalised and will not be the original Vulcan layout. Over $28k of new flight electronics.
  7. Due to all the old and unneeded kit removed the CofG will be different. However a lot of the kit will be repalced with concrete forms to restore the CofG
  8. The weight in wire thats been removed from the cockpit alone is 3500lbs!
  9. In total the amount of weight removed so far is estimated to be in the region of 10 tons!
  10. They have 8 brand spanking new engines. Thats it - no more.
  11. They will run them in slower than the Military - 5 days per set of 4 estimated
  12. No rapid start system yet - it's a very complicated system - this is a possibility for the later years though. They decided to remove it for ease of restoration at this time.
  13. There will be only 2 test flights hopefully. 1st will be a 15min flight. 2nd will be a 40min flight. Then the aircraft will be passed over to the VOC for handling of the aircraft.
  14. If there's any issues, there will be a 3rd test flight.
  15. Heres what you all want to know. FIRST FLIGHT - MAY '07
  16. Crew is reduced from 5 to 3. However when operating from somewhere other than Bruntingthorpe all 5 seats will be in use when ferrying the aircraft.
  17. There will be 2 displays crews. Including the Captain from the Black Buck 1 mission. He can't bloody wait.
  18. There will be an event at Brintingthorpe on June 17th which will be invite only.

Can't think of anything else at the moment.

No idea if it will fly there.

I believe they have 3 shows currently planned for next year.

The Mall in London *June 17th*, Fairford and Farnbrough

Up to the organisers of the shows wether they want Delta Lady there or not.
