Looking at chopping in my current car (1.4TSI Golf GT Sport) to get something with cheaper monthly payments (purchase will be financed) and a bit bigger.

Local VW dealer that supplied the golf has 2 cars that interest me one of which is the Superb.

05 plate, 50k miles, 8k, 1.9TDi Elegance.

What's right/wrong with them? Good price?

Lots more looking around to do yet but certainly an interesting idea....

I had a quick look on Autotrader and found a 45k 2005 1.9 Comfort for £6500, so £8k doesn't sound too clever to me.

If you just need a tool for a job why not use this as an opportunity to ditch finance and buy something outright? £3-4k gets some tidy Octavias and Mondeos etc.

Superbs have a longer wheelbase than Octavias and Mondeos which give it a more comfortable ride.
If that doesn't convince you, they also come with an umbrella in the rear door, ala RR Phantom.

My dad uses a PD 130 auto on a daily basis and has no complaints.
Not sure about spending £8k on a 5 year old one though.

We had a 2.5 V6 TDI one with leather and sat nav a few years back. Lovely car, pretty quick for a diesel, masses of legroom in the back and very very reliable. Would recommend one, but not sure about £8k for a 5 year old one.

I'd been looking at the SAAB 9-3 if you're after something cheap and comfortable.

How did that happen? :D

They are indeed cheap and comfy, although not very large - my 9-3 saloon is about the same size as a Jetta, so not much bigger than a golf really! Whereas the Superb, IIRC is based on a stretched passat.

The 9-5 is about that size though, and even comfier than the 9-3 :)

Yours must be about the same size a my 54 plate black 9-3 AERO with cream full leather and not a lot else. ;)

How much did you pay for yours (if you don't mind me asking)? Also what's the spec?

Exactly the same size I'd guess

Mine's a 55 plate 2.0T Aero 210bhp, grey/cream 2 tone leather and quite a few toys. Paid £7k for it, 44,000 miles on it. There's a thread here if you're interested :)

Mine's the same, 2.0T 210BHP. Mine's a manual however.

I paid £4750 for mine last summer, 90k on the clock. Mine isn't a great spec though, none of the extras but I was in a huury and it looked a good deal. It's got full leather and that's what I was moth bothered about.
