Hi all planning to get probably a new ipod nano 3rd gen/8gb before the xmas rush and want to buy some nice headphones for it...

So I really like the look of the Skullcandy's, i've seen e'm in a store in New Zealand too and they look awesome:)
Very little to read about them on the net (i've tried for hrs) other than that most people rate them as being pretty neat.

So does anyone here have experience of these headphones?

Thanks all

From what I've heard they really aren't very good for the money. I use a pair of Creative EP-630s with my 3G 8GB Nano and I couldn't be happier. Although, for home use I have a pair of Beyer DT770s.

Your buying headphones because they look 'neat' Skullcandy are rubbish, worse than BOSE even.

As tissue said try the creatives.

sorry thats just not true, full metal jackets are awesome.

I have a set of smokin buds and GIs and I'm very happy with them.

And why rolleyes someone for wanting something that looks good as well as sounding good? you've got to find some way of differentiating one set of headphones from another.

Skullcandy or sennheiser for me seeing as I could never justify shures.

They might look okay, but at that price I can be pretty sure the money skull cnady went on the 'streamlined alloy casing' (taken from a retailer). Look at other well renound IEMs and you won't see fancy alloy casings, why ? Well weight for one reason, cost, and just that it is not necessary. For example, my westone UM-1s cost £90 over here and have what look slike the cheapest injection moulded see through casing in the world. Shures and UE are the same.

Sorry but these just SCREAM 'form over function', and i would say im one hell of an audio geek, and im sad that soo many people buy crap like this when i know there is soo much better out there.

Good, that's the most important thing, but if you have heard IEMs from the best manufacturers then you would certainly change your mind.

I admit it might have seemed a little harsh, but when i read his post it looked like 'ZOMG SHINY thing earphones in bright colours !1111111oneoneone, looked amaaaaazing in the shop. But i think my view on these skullcandies influenced me :)

. Also have a look at the cheap ceatives, check out UE, etymotic, and westone too. I spent £60 on my westone UM1 and doubt i would ever want to spend more on a pair of IEMs. I heard some shure E530s at the head-fi meet and i was gobsmacked by how good they were, but at £200 they should be. If you really want a bargain then try some etymotic er4ps.

3t3p: I would have a browse in the headpnone section at www.headfi.org, and there are plenty of discussion threads about IEMs over there, and if you sign up there, let alone read some of the stuff then 'sorry about your wallet' :D:D:D

what's wrong with liking the look of something? I think you were harsh personally I was only asking if the 35 quid headphones were worth the money or not.
I'm no audiophile, I appreciate nice gear but it doesn't have to be top of the line, most of my mp3's are only 128kb/s and will probably be played from a new nano, not bad but not the greatest sound reproducer I know.

I currently use philips in-ear virtual surround sound phones and really love them, i'm on my third pair in fact (others broke due to long-term mechanical stress, not philips' fault) and wondering maybe I should stick to those. They isolate well and do make the music sound more live but not in the way an artificial EQ setting would...

I've heard the skullcandy headsets are no good but that their buds are good. I hope they aren't just bass machines as metal is what I likes and we don't need crazy bass at all...
Dunno if to suck it and see worst comes to worst I could go back to my philips as I know they work

Shures look nice but are nearly 50% of the cost of the mp3 player!?

matt100 would you be able to give me slightly more on the opinion of why you like your candys? Only like I said I can't find hardly any info on the net regarding these phones, the fact that they are housed in metal is relevant to me I think as it shows a lot of effort on their half so why would they skimp on sound quality? They only weigh 12g ea or something...
So have you ever tried FMJ's for yourself? Or you assuming they are an improvement on your current phones? Cheers:)

Ok I just found Shure's E2C's on a website in uk for 40 quid, so 5 more than the skullcandys
Everyone has reviewed them as 5/5 that's 17 reviews...
Looks like these ones are the ones to get no?
lol

ok, I work for one of the largest mobile accessory distributors in the UK, I am pretty well connected with sennheiser and skullcandy and apart from the fact i find skulcandy very easy to deal with I also love to product. I have some CX300 sennheisers and smokin buds/GIs from skullcandy.

I have also tried lots of sonys, altec lansings and some shures and quite honestly I think the sound quality of the higher brands is probably beyond the capabilities of my ipod/pc and the majority of my low bit rate downloaded mp3s.

So you get to form when function is much the same and for that the skullcandy GIs are soooooo comfortable in comparison with my sonys, similarly the smokin buds are more than a match for my ipod, full metal jackets (yes I've tested them) are even better, I just didn't have access to freebies!

There's a lot of snobishness around audio gear but I can totally vouch for skullcandy being more than enough for the general and slightly advanced user. If you're a superaudiogeek then just buy whatever makes you feel special because I'm prepared to gamble the gold speaker wire, £1000 amps and shure headphones won't sound any different but they'll make you feel warm inside.

thanks for taking the time to write all that matt100 was very helpful
I think you are right about snobishness re audio equipment tho

damn I wish the new nanos would come in 16gb flavours tho, but I don't think there are any plans for that to my knowledge

there's your problem right there - comparing them with cx300's and assuming you cant get any better for the money. youd be wrong - the sony ex85's are better than both of them and still look respectable.

see, i just cant agree with this. even a budget set will improve the sound quality of any mp3 player. no you cant polish a turd, but you can still improve them.

you have a lot of bitterness toward people who genuinely want better sound. like i said, ex85's, just try them:) <£30.

I don't get that wound up, it was just a fairly negative set of comments that were made about what I consider to be a pretty decent set of headphones.

I don't doubt there are better but for the OP, I would be suprised if you were disappointed.
