..i cant remember....
Hi All

Had my Sky+ HD Installed at the weekend and suitably impressed.

I was having a good chat with the Engineer as it turns out that i know him through the industry that i am in now and he used to work at a customers :D ANYWAY.....we got chatting and he told me some interesting info............

SKY 3D Channel first show is in December 2010 :) Apprantly it has all been tested and is ready, they just chose launch date for then in order for full release preperation.
The good part about this is that all SKY+HD boxes are compatible and ready to work as soon as it goes live (just need to make sure your TV is compatible) Apparantly the TV's that you need to watch it without glasses start at about £8K at the moment!

Some interesting info so i thought that i would share

I would always take anything a front line staff member says about forthcoming products with a large pinch of salt - usually they are last to now exactly when products are turning up and the ins and outs of it...

ps3ud0

i heard the same about 3d but we will have to wait and see to see if we get it or not!

100% Agreed, however, he was so open about it and was along the lines of it being common knowledge.

We're working with a few companies and are experimenting using a similar method to that of Nvidia Vision where you have glasses that use shutters controlled by an IR emitter attached to the top of the TV. It's incredibly effective even on a standard TV with 2D source material.

Do you really think people are going to wear glasses though?

Because I wouldn't sat on my sofa.

I was thinking the same thing, apparently though with the TV's you wont need to, it will project depth perception :)

So there will be 3d tvs which you don't have to wear silly glasses for?

Borich

The technology exists now, but it will be years and year until it gets to the sizes needed for home tv. And how it will deal with different seating distances I've no idea.

I'd say glasses are here to stay.

I saw a 40" one last week.

You have to make sure you stand/sit in the right place and are no closer than 2.5-3m away from the TV to let it work.

It was playing demo stuff rather than actual programs. Some stuff was impressive but if you don't sit in the right place it can look blurred.

I think it will be a long time before it gets to the quality acceptable for watching films etc in people homes whilst being at a price point available to Joe Public.
