April's Episode - Time Lord
Sunday 01 April, 11.30pm BBC One

In an anniversary programme, Patrick Moore travels back in time to see the first recording of The Sky at Night which took place 50 years ago this month. He talks to his earlier self about astronomy back in 1957, and discusses how things have changed in half a century. He then time travels to 2057 where the 'virtual' Patrick, saved in the BBC computer, is now celebrating 100 years of making The Sky at Night and talks to Dr Brian May about the discovery of life on Mars.

Damn missed it. I knew it was on too.:(

Oh well at least I was looking at Saturn with my new telescope. Very interresting indeed although a bit on the cold side. My hands are numb typing this.

The programme's on again at 8:30 this evening on BBC4.

It's hard to imagine that the series has been going for 50 years. I remember when the first programme was about to be shown. I had no opportunity to watch it as my parents didn't have TV in those days. It wasn't until 1959 that we got a set and I was able to watch it.

Right from the first time I watched the programmes he was clearly a very enthusiastic presenter, but not as eccentric as he's more recently become.

Patrick Moore, as a relatively young author, had been a hero of mine for some time before he started his TV series. I remember the first book I ever borrowed from my school library was one if his first books about the moon.

Since then I had one opportunity to see a lecture of his. It was in the early 1980s, and proved to be a very entertaining evening.

I recorded last night's anniversary programme, and am looking forward to watching it some time soon.
