Hi there

I have the Sky unlimited deal up-to 20mb as they say
I have been reading up about LLU and as i understand my exchange is enabled (sam knows) but I only get about 4MB yet my router says nearly 5mb.

could anyone shed some light on the matter for me? or shall i ring up sky and see what they have to say?

i have also noticed people posting there stats from there router so here are mine in case they are any use:

Connection Speed 5018 kbps 796 kbps
Line Attenuation 41 db 24 db
Noise Margin 7 db 13 db

thanks :)

If your on the 20mb package your on Sky's LLU network.

Your getting the speed your getting because of the Distance / State / Condition of your line stats.

Speedtest.net and other speed checks are never 100% accurate, what makes you think your not on LLU?

Which package does your My Sky account say your on?
Is your router connected to the master socket or an extension? If its not then give it a go connected to the master socket.... otherwise try the test socket.

You connect at 5018kbps because you're limited by the length of your line.

You only get a 4.32Mbps download rate for a couple of reasons. Firstly, your 5018kbps sync is actually about 4.9Mbps - you have to divide by 1024. Secondly, only about 90% of that bandwidth is actually available for your data - the rest is taken up by transmission overheads.

Basically, everything is completely normal.

i emailed them after my initial training period and they upped my line speed from 4mb to

ADSL Link Downstream Upstream
Connection Speed 14333 kbps 1034 kbps
Line Attenuation 30 db 16 db
Noise Margin 7 db 7 db

I cant get into my sky account to check so i think im gonna ring em up and ask, my router is plugged into the master socket with no extension and have been switching from master to test socket with no change

thanks

I had no idea you can call Sky and get them to speed up your line!

Do you have to ask/say anything specific? As I said in another thread about 2 minutes ago, I don't care much about my speed since it isn't great, but I am interested in a free speed boost. :)

Just ring up & ask if they can up your speed to what your line can handle. They'll run a few tests & find the max speed your line can handle before errors occur :)

Took about 10 minutes to sort mine.

What address matey? I'm syncing a lot faster than I'm downloading now, and my training period runs out tomorrow. Just upgraded to Unlimited.

Are you sure it's just that fact that it's the maximum bandwidth your line can achieve without becoming unstable due to your distance from the exchange? In that case it won't make a difference what provider you have, unless there are intricacies with LLU and different technology.

I'm just over 2k from my exchange which is a reason but according to bt and sky i should still recieve almost 5mb yet i get no where near that. So moving to 50mb virgin on friday :D

I have the same problem, it's all down to how far you are from the exchange.

They got my mom to switch when I wasn't here, from 10mb Virgin to Sky where I get around 4mb when it's supposed to be 16mb.

I'm counting the days until I we cant switch back...

Ah right, so you can get cable? I find that most of the time when the exchange is miles away cable isn't an option either =/

i was supprised to be honest too but my address states i can get super fast broadband so thats what i shall have.

also using mapmyrun i am approx: 1.84km from the exchange (as the crow flys) or 2.4km by road.

Gave Sky a call today and the very nice gentleman upped my speed from 3070kbps to 4448kbps

Not very impressive in the grand scheme of things, but I am about 2 miles away from my exchange by road.

Very happy considering I was on the phone for only a few minutes :)

my stats are below running it off the master stock via a extension upto my room with the line attenuation should i be getting more than the 9213 kpbs?
Looking at LabR@t's router stats the line / noise is very close

ADSL Link Downstream Upstream
Connection Speed 9213 kbps 1016 kbps
Line Attenuation 27 db 15 db
Noise Margin 11 db 8 db

D18241 - you've got a bit of headroom left with the SNR. It can go as low as 7db before they'll stop increasing speed. But syncing at 9Mb/s leaving 11db SNR is slightly low.

for comparison I'm upgrading to "up to 20mb" and at an attenuation of 25.5db I have a SNR of 19.5db syncing at 9215Kpbs
