Sky Broadband 16mb

Is this the "Max" one (£10 a month)? I'm still paying £25.99 to Nildram and I have no idea why... There's no catches in Skys package is there? I can't find any details about it, webspace? e-mail?

Very happy with it here, installed on Wednesday.
Connected at around 15 meg and getting 1.4 MB/sec downloads from newsgroups.

Think the catch is the 12 month contract term ?

I'm paying £25 a month for NTL 4MB, Sky's 16MB offer at that ^ price is awesome but tbh I could never switch to ADSL as I'd also have to switch wireless equipment and start over, we have NTL and a BT line so don't have issues with choosing either net connection but at those costs I'd save £20 a month!!

Hmm, i'm already on DSL and a 12 month contract doesn't sound like a catch to me.

If I can only connect at ~7.6Mbps with Nildram i'm guessing that'll be what I'd connect at with Sky, but £16 cheaper..

You could only get 1mb depending on how far away fromyour exchange you are.

I would agree depending on true distance from exchange and quality of line i would doubt you will see 16mb. You may see it if your 1km or less away from the exchange but any more and i seriously doubt it. Using sam knows only gives the straightline as the crow flies distance, in real terms it could and usually is double that.

Why pay for a 16mb connection when an 8mb possibly would suite your requirements better?

Problem I have, however, is that with NTL I don't have to have a phone line and I'm getting the speeds advertised without worrying about distance.

I'd be happy to sign up for Sky, but I'd then need a BT line installed, would then have to pay BT line rental (with NTL I don't) and have no guarantee the speeds would even reach 10Meg. I'm right near the Trentside exchange but as has been said, knowing how it's laid I could be a billion miles away, even though it's spitting distance :(

im keeping the ntl connection live for a few weeks just incase ^ if I get above 8mb speeds and it stays that way with normal everyday usage and downloading etc then I'll be delighted and stick with it - if not then it's not going to stay, we already have sky digital TV package so the broadband is just an addon so should have no trouble removing it if it fails to meet requirements.

As has been said I can also phone ntl and haggle a cheaper price if this does become the case :)
