Sky HD audio?

Yes i can do that just set the digital audio option to. TV/CD = Optical 2. I have moved the optical cable to port 2 just incase there was a problem.
Thing is Fantastic four has now finished and rude tube is not DD. :(

Ok your manual says, If signals are present at more than one input, the inputs
will be selected automatically in the following order of priority:
HDMI, digital, analog.

It's using the hdmi for sound like mine does, plug the sky box direct to the hdmi on your tv and the optical lead from the sky box to your amp.

Also from the manual.

If you connect a component to a digital audio input, you
must assign that input to an input selector. For example, if
you connect your CD player to the OPTICAL IN 1, you
must assign “OPT1” to the “TV/CD” input selector.

Yeah i did this, when i selected CBL/SAT = Optical 1. Although the optical is now in 2 but i tried it on setting Optical 2 also.

Ahh right the HD cable goes direct into tv. Optical cable goes from sky to amp. Set sky channel to 171 Five HD and now there is a D light and also PLII light on. Does that mean its playing out in DD now?? Lol sorry for all the daft questions, i just want to get the best out of the system.

Yes that's correct apart from when it's showing PL11 that's dolby pro logic 2 ie upmixed 2 channel when a DD signal is input it'll show dd on the amp.

The 2 back to front D's are what im getting and then a D at the side of it, with the PLII symbol to.

None are using DD at the moment, i'm sure you have it set up correct now though as your getting PL11 up.

Odd that sky 3 is isn't out putting DD when it says it is.

This is an Onkyo receiver right?

Do you have a "Digital Input" button on the front of the unit? You need to press that to switch from using HDMI to Optical for audio. That button will cycle betweem HDMI audio and whatever Optical port you assigned in settings.

im not sure about all the commotion here, its pretty straight forward using sky and optical.

sky box > hdmi > amp. (sat/cab)
sky box > optical 1 > amp. (tv/cd)

which will result in sound being played from both sources and you can select which one. if its in hd select tv/cd if its not i just leave it at sat/cab.
where you can help it (and unless your amp is really old) you shouldnt be running the hdmi cable to your tv, it should go into the amp and then the amp has an output source that goes into your tv....you should treat your amp as the 'hub'

the receiver will pretty much always say " CBL ALL Ch St" you need to press the RECEIVER button on the remote followed by display and it will show you the output source on the amp.

you need to get hold of that manual and give it a read i think.

I took a look through the manual of your Onkyo receiver and this option doesn't seem to have a dedicated button on the unit anymore.

Instead it looks like you need to press Receiver, then Audio on the remote and then find the AudioSelect option and change it to OPT (because the receiver gives priority to HDMI audio).

See page 35 of your manual.

Hope that helps.

This is what has sorted it. Basically set the audio to analogue on the CBL/SAT setting then went back into the main menu and selected OPTICAL 2.

Would like to thank you all that have given me some input. I did try reading the manual but a lot of it means nothing to me lol.

Just got to find something that is output in DD.

Again thank you very much guys.
