Sorry if this is the wrong forum, doesn't seem suited to Networking etc!

SO. I moved into my new flat today. Sky engineer arrived, put in our shiny new Sky HD box and connected it to the TV. It worked, he left, all was dandy.

We needed to move the TV Stand, and the coax cable was all tangled, so I powered everything off, unplugged, moved stand, plugged it back in. Nothing more, didn't stretch/bang it or shove it in too hard, put it back exactly where it is.

Now I'm just getting "No satellite signal is being received" :(

I googled and it said check your signal strength, but I can't find out how to! all the guides on the interwebs are from Sky/Sky+ but the Sky HD interface is quite different and i'm not sure where it should be.

Help? :(

Edit: Oh and it must *kind* of be working, because I can get all the tv listings, guide etc. If I unplug the coax completely I get nothing, with it plugged in I get all the channels and what's on/when, just not the actual picture!

is it raining?

Nope, clear and lovely outside. I wondered if it was the weather, but it hasn't changed, and seems too much of a co-incidence.

Does anyone have any idea how to check signal strength on a Sky HD box?

Go to the tabs along the top of the sky guide (by default you'll be in "TV GUIDE"), it's in the "Settings" tab somewhere

It seems to think the signal strength and quality are very high? Picture to follow.

Edit: Thanks, by the way.

if you unplugged the white cables, have you put them in the right holes?

there are 2 white cables, try them the other way round.

When you say unplugged, did you remove either of the f-connectors?

Not quite sure what the f-connectors are, what are they?

The only thing I unplugged was the black coaxial cable, and I carefully put it back in the same connector.

There's only one coax as our block of flats only give you one feed. This mean that everything works fine, but you can only record the channel you're watching as Sky+ recording needs a second feed to record a second channel. Our flats have a notice about this on the website, and the engineer also said its fine.

So there's one black coax cable going into a connector. I tried plugging it into the other connector for the hell of it, but then I get absolutely nothing (no tv listings etc)

At the risk of sounding like a PC helpdesk:

Have you tried turning it off, leaving it a minute, then turning it back on again?

Apart from double checking the the f-connector is screwed all the way home I cant really think of any other suggestions. Try removing the connector and check the length of the protuding cable is sufficient that it will make a good connection. The core of the cable should protrude slightly beyond the threaded part of the connector. It would seem unlikely that the problem is caused just by you pulling the power, and presumably nothing in the physical setup has changed. Perhaps ask your neighbours if they have lost signal?

Perhaps have a look at this -

try doing a hard reset. Can't remember how exactly but if you google or ring sky and they'll talk you through it.

just found this:
Or for a 'FULL RESET' unplug the Sky box, press and hold the the 'Back Up' button on the box, plug the box back in, and after about ten secs the box will come on and display a warning message on you TV, not to turn the box ogg. The box will then go online and update to the lastest software.
I think you have to hold the back up button untill it re boots

Hit services on your remote, then 4, 0, 1 then enter. That brings up the engineers menu, you can perform a system reset from there. We had this problem with our Sky, but it developed 10months after installation, turns out the guy that installed it had messed up the external wiring. If it keeps happening every few days give them a call. HTH

A full system reset isn't really done to cure a no sat signal fault. Normally if powering off the digibox doesn't work you would do an LNB reset through the engineer menu and if that doesn't work then you need the engineer back. Are your neighbours receiving their Sky signal ok?
