any update on if this is actually happening?

I’m buying a flat that has no dish, apparently the freeholder won’t allow one to be installed or even a communal system. So I’m stuck soon with no sky

I keep seeing talk of sky in 2018 but nothing official.

I’m thinking BT TV at the moment and add sky sports inc sky f1. Just annoyingly I’m so used to sky ha

BT TV dont do F1, just Sky Sports 1/2. Later this year (proposed) they are incorporating the full NowTV service into the BT TV Box which will be very interesting if they can pull it off.

If I were you I`d get NowTV as a stop gap to give you what you want until other developments are done.

yeah i have now tv for football it's not perfect but it's better than nothing if you cant have a dish, also now tv is getting 1080p upgrade later in the year i wished they would upgrade the sound to 5.1 dolby digital too but no news on that at the moment.

i assume when sky goes full broadband on tv they will be offering a full hd 4k service.

I watched Sky TV just last night at a friend's house. He has broadband going into a PC and then out via HDMI to a smart TV. No Sky dish on his house at all...

SkyGo, I think it was - Used an app downloaded onto the PC, but still gives you access to your Sky account and any additional channels you pay for. Seems to let you 'record' stuff as well, just like a SkyBox.
I'm not especially up on how all this **** works as I don't watch TV myself, but the wife does, so I was going to sort her an HTPC kinda thing so she doesn't have to use the Sky box and can browse the internet with a keyboard instead of a crappy remote control.

Or is this not the same thing?

You need an active Sky account to use Sky Go, unless you have a friend who has Sky Go Extra (supports 4 devices) and they can give you one of their devices that way. If your friend does not have a Sky account, he most likely is using someone else's Sky Go Extra.

I thought they had stopped streaming for this reason

I guess if it’s to a PC it’s just mirroring the screen. My dad has sky I might go down that route. I’ll just buy a little pc for under the tv for just that purpose

Apple TV doesn’t allow you to stream from iPad with the sky go app

When we initially discussed this on OC I thought sky Germany was going to be first customer - have they already started service there ?

NowTv catch up is only 720(live sd), not full 1080, but it looks fine to me though on a sub 50" tv, SkyGo picture (hdmi) never seemed any better,
so they probably need to make bb 1080 live streams available before a bb service could start (not sure are skyhd catch-ups in 1080, or 720 like bbc)

maybe trying to sell sky to comcast or fox is also slowing down new service debut ?

He has an active Sky account. We have an active Sky Account. We also have a fully working Sky box that came with our active Sky account.
The question was whether I can throw away the Sky box and dish just use the broadband to access our active Sky account, as per the OP's requirements?

Well, technically you could, as you do not have to use the box or the satellite dish. BUT, you do not get all of the content that you pay for if you only use Sky Go (Extra). There's a very specific set of channels and options. So you would be missing out on things you pay for.

The only streaming service that is similar to Sky and offers you Sky channels that are not included by other providers is NOW TV. You do not need a box with it if you have a smart TV, and there are also TV stick options available too. You can find pretty cheap passes on eBay too.

did you decide if you wanted somewhere to live or sky then ? tough call

About Sky streaming service, we do not subscribe to sky go (£5 p/m), but had been using their silverlight system on windows PC, where you could catch up & view live (but not record) it seems this now needs a new sky go app .
any success stories ?

seems (many ?) people have problems

If you've been with them for longer than 3 continuous years for the TV, then you can get Sky Go Extra for free through the VIP program.
