*** Sky Q Thread ***

Switched on the mini box last night to find no channels (blank screen) showing but everthing else working on it. The connections on it to the silver box and wifi showing ok. A restart didn't bring back the channels but a restart of the silver box did.

Have Sky actually said what channels they plan to show in UHD on Sky Q ?

No they haven't but there is expected to be an entertainment channel which should have stuff from Atlantic, Sky, etc. A dedicated movie channel which we know will have Sony blockbusters. Next season Premier League games will be in 4K and at some point Formula One will be the same. It is also quite possible that there will also be an on demand 4K offering. So plenty to look forward to!

Getting really bad audio crackling and dropouts after a couple of days that only a reboot sorts, regretting jumping in so early.

Any fix? My audio is running through hdmi into a Yamaha amp.

There are sounds issues being reported and all you can do is wait for a firmware update.

Not heard of crackling before but shedloads of people, myself included, are getting dropouts to some degree.

Sky really need to update people to at least say they're aware and working on fixes. So far we've heard nothing.

We've seen nothing since April 11th and that was only some router fixes and to enable non Sky broadband users to join. I wish they weren't so very secretive about updates.

What's the approach recommended on receipt of the Sky Q Hub, ahead of installation? My Hub has arrived, and the install date is a week on Friday.....currently not using the SR102 that was supplied, using a Netgear D7000 instead - should I get the Hub setup in advance?

No harm done in getting it up and running beforehand.

Some stuff on UHD from the Sky forum:

Sky have been testing on 10744, H , 23.0, 2/3, 8PSK for several weeks at an average 30.6Mbps now. It's encrypted so you won't see anything.

According to a different online forum select Sky Q testers now have an update that has enabled UHD and were able to watch the cricket the rest of us with sport had in HD over the weekend in simucast 4k. Whether that's true or not I can't say but it sounds promising.

Had Sky Q installed this morning and when the engineer was going through it all he said I should use the remote to get used to it and he would tell me what to do. Anyway, as I was going through the menus, in the Boxset sub menu there was a Ultra HD option with 2 box sets in there. The engineer was amazed and said he'd never seen it before, and promptly took a picture on his iPad. Unfortunately I don't have a 4K to yet so didn't even click on them, but I also took a picture. So, I went back to work and came home tonight and the Ultra HD menu has gone. Makes me think something is eminent. (The box sets were The Blacklist and Richard Hammonds Jungle quest by the way, not sure how to upload a picture of it)
Engineer checked my software settings but said they were what he'd expected to see so had no idea where it came from.

I've seen the picture and it was there.

I have dumped the touch remote and I'm just using the classic ones.

Would still like to be able to press one button to take me straight to the EPG.

My wife dumped the touch on me. My niggle with this is the accidental trigger of the pause/forward/reverse bar.

Unable to watch tv programs yesterday on the mini box. Recordings worked and the tv guide was there but program screen blank. Unpowered mini, restarted Q box then repowered the mini and all back to normal.

So only Sky Cinema:

The enhanced viewing experience will come to life through a number of new features for customers watching through Sky+HD or Sky Q including:

•New, improved HD as standard

•Even better sound quality, closer to the cinema experience, for on demand films

•New tools to help customers watch and find their favourite films including the ‘Restart’ feature which means customers can watch films from the very beginning no matter what point they switch on

Sky Q customers can look forward to Ultra HD films by the end of the year

To improve the HD, Sky is using a new internal master format that provides a third more pixels and four times the number of colour shades of the current HD offered. This means sharper and more vibrant pictures for a better viewing experience. As well as improved picture, selected movies on demand will also have sound closer to cinema. The sound range has been increased in part by taking the audio track straight from the studios. It means louder bangs and quieter whispers with no need for customer to make any adjustments to their TV.

As usual with early adoption I expect some issues. I'm experiencing box lockups. No signal. no picture(although pulling out/reinserting the HDMI cable fixes this)

I'm still running it with SkyHD and all recordings are doubled up.

Yes it has a few issues but the future looks good.

Are you using two accounts and two dishes?
