We've got Sky - just the basic setup.
The box is from just over a year ago - a silver unit (not sure if that helps identify its make/model) and it has been more or less OK.
Actually when I compare the box to my parents very old Pace box this one is so quick....

Anyway, I was watching LivingTV the other evening and started getting an extremely bad case of "out of sync" - the video and sound were both great but there was a delay between the video and sound.
I cannot even say it was a tiny bit out of sync, this was all very noticeable.

However the issue certainly isn't on all channels.
If I switch over to say Sky 1 then that was absolutely fine, in fact most other channels are OK.
So far I've only noticed it on LivingTV (and +1), Reality TV, VH1 and a few others I cannot remember off the top of my head.

Just over a year ago I still lived in an NTL area and we had cable TV rather than satellite.
After a while we would notice out of sync issues with the NTL setup and we found totally powering down the NTL box for a couple of minutes and then bringing it up seemed to solve the problem - we had to kind of do this once a week and everything remained in sync.

Should I report this issue to Sky or is this a known issue that really they aren't going to be able to fix?
I'm out of warranty on the Sky box now anyway - however is it a known issue with only some of the boxes, so if I bought a different one from EBay I may not experience the same problem?

Work in the tech department in sky and unfortunatly only thing they'll get you to do is to disconnect power and reconnect.

They offer service calls for £65, but if you say your going to cancel and they will transfer you to cancelation department (turnaround) then you should easily get it half price or more than lickly free, but I never told you that ;)

Thanks for the reply.
Is it actually a known problem then on some channels?
It's not a major problem having to power down and back up - five minutes work etc.
Would sourcing one of the newer boxes help the situation or does the problem still exist even on the newer ones?

Which model of box do you have?

Can you borrow a friends box for 5mins, plugging it into your dish and then seeing what it's like?

yeah it is altough very uncommen on the normal stb's normally only sky+, would try some one elses box if possible. A newer box should fix the problem altough it could be the dish causing the problems maybe even cabling.

You can get another box, if you get any messages i.e call to upgrade, wrong card for stb. Call tech department and they'll pair the card up to your new stb.

I've started getting this on an old (ish) Panasonic Sky box. If I just hit the power button on the remote and turn it back on again, it clears it.

Remember that even a sky+ verson2 box is only worth around £50 now, you will easily be able to get something decent like a panny DBS30 for half that.

Not worth getting sky out, the hardware is worth nothing.
