*** Sky TV Cancellation & Negotiation Thread ***

My box is Samsung. The engineer said that a new deal was done with Samsung and Sky and all the boxes will be Samsung only.

Samsung boxes are quite old now, the current models are Sky manufactured (Ex Amstrad after sky bought them) DRX890WL (500G) and DRX895WL (2T) models.....

Still paying Zero per month for my FREESAT...Never looked back since getting this HUMAX box...:D

I bought a humax youview box which had it been just for me would be perfect, along with now tv I was more than happy shame the one bloody channel I need isn't available unless on subscription is disneyxd, unfortunately wife wins........ again...... but i'm happy with £16 a month for the family package

We have a humax youview box that bt give away with their subscription it is a great piece of kit that I rate much higher than the sky box it replaced, with the added bonus that BT are paying me 48 quid for having tv broadband and phone this year and 99% of the boxes functions will continue to work once the contract expires!

Sky was great when it was free (we had the crazy O2 deal) but there was nothing on offer that I would pay for which I guess means my kids will have to grow up without the Disney channel!

well I'm now back with them after just over 6 weeks without, so it was a bit iffy doing it in my wifes maiden name but ive been with them for almost 13 years and have never had any discount bar the free broadband when I left. So i'll probably cancel this time next year and go back in my name :) but got a nice new dish put up and a new hd box so popped out to my local computer shop and bought a 2tb external wd drive ripped it apart and put it in as soon as I got home, thought it would be better sooner rather than later, at first it wouldn't record, then it wouldn't let me do a rebuild but a full reset solved it :) hopefully its partitioned correctly and i'll be getting the full 1.75gb (approx.) personal storage.

You didn't get a 2tb box free?....I wangled three before I kicked the sky habit...

best offer I've had so far is 25% off movies & sports to go back - they get cut off on boxing day. But on the plus side - first bill since removing them - £60. Nice to be less than £100 a month!

Sky TV / Virgin TV / BT TV = all rubbish! Nothing but repeats for most channels.

This gets said a lot yet I really don't find it to be true. Yes, there's lots of repeats, but there's also lots of new stuff all the time as well as a decent selection of shows on-demand every month. I'm regularly in a situation where I have more to watch than I have time for.

Also depends on what you watch, the sport is generally not repeated time and time again like the umpteen channels that show QI or Only Fools and Horses etc. I get annoyed that with the limited bandwidth available to Freeview they still allow +1 channels, they are 100% repeats.

Just cancelled all our Sky package - 2 Sky+HD and 1 HD multirooms, with all the movies/sports. Was paying just over £90 a month for this.

We get our phone and broadband with Virgin (120Mb+), at about £50 a month. They've offered us 2 Tivo boxes and one HD box, with all the channels incl sports/movies, for about £85 a month (incl our current phone/bb), so a big saving over having the two seperate.

Sky would only offer me £10 a month discount, and even then only if I agreed another 12mnth contract. He did say the reason they couldnt offer me much is that one of my Sky+HD boxes is under contract until 20th Jan, and would I like to hold on and see what they can offer me then. Said no, cancellation arranged for 31st Jan. I'll await the phone calls :)

Did have a Virgin Tivo many years back, and there were a few annoying bits with it - but I read that Virgin are now getting F1 HD, plus I'll get all the BT Sports as well. I'm sure it won't be that bad :)

That seems incredibly reasonable for what you are getting! Is that price only for a limited period, first 6 months or something?

I think it comes to around £85 for the first 6 months then up to around £95. I'll sort out the install in the next week or two and get all the details then, but yes I agree - seems a very good deal for everything we currently have with a £50ish saving.
