*** Sky TV Cancellation & Negotiation Thread ***

Ive read some horror stories about people trying to leave sky saying its only possible via post.
Is it possible via web chat that's the easiest for me, will be moving soon and its better to cancel and get the other half to sign up. Could do with getting rid of the tv packages first then move the internet and phone at a later date.

I'm also thinking of swapping my 500gb drive to 2tb.
Is it a simply a case of swap the drive? What about partioning & formatting?

I put the 2tb one in my brand new 500gb box the day I got it, at first I thought I'd borked it, couldn't record anything or even do a planner rebuild, a factory reset did the trick so yeah it was just a case of swapping them over, its a little bit fiddly but worth the effort

I'd quite like to put a bigger HDD in my box (or just get a bigger box), but I'm never at a point in time where I have nothing recorded to watch so I don't know when I'd have the opportunity!

Theres a couple of utilities that allow you to back up recordings you currently have and transfer to new hdd, copy+ or something rings a bell

Finally caved. Cancelled just after the end of the F1. Guy called yesterday, offered 60% off, half price HD (and then a £50 credit to offset that), all for 10 months with no contract.

Was going to stick with NowTV for F1, but when I'm paying the equivalent (taking the credit into account) of £26/month for everything and no contract, it was a no brainer.

I recently replaced my SkyHD box.
I had an old Samsung one - couldn't tell you exactly how old, but it was really showing its age.
It was starting to miss recordings, playbacks would just start to pause halfway for no reason forcing a totaly reboot of the box before you could continue watching.
Box became unresponsive when two programs were recording, 20+ second delay on remote control signal commands.

Was going to speak with sky, however I did a search around Ebay instead.
Managed to purchase a refurbished Amstrad DRX890 (the new model) with an upgraded 1TB drive in for £69 delivered.
Swap from one box to the other was done online and took about an hour and the new box has made sky a totally differecnt experience.
The box is responsive every single time no matter what it's doing, fast menus etc.
Also like the fact it automatically changes the TV chanel to the correct input - something missing from the first generation HD boxes.

Well this has gone well. Cancelled Sky (TV, landline and fibre) to use a F&F deal and move to BT Infinity for free BT Sport. What have BT done? Screwed up as expected.

Does anyone know if it's possible to un-cancel Sky landline/fibre 48 hours before it's due to cut off? Otherwise I'm going to be left with no landline or internet for 2 weeks, joy.

in two minds whether to get sky complete package for £36 pounds. Would love to have sky sports.

Anyone can give advice whether it's worth it altogether. I also watch a a lot of american series if that helps(Game of Thrones ect..)

I justify £30 p/m just for sports, but this amount will differ for everyone. In my head that's the cost of 'Sky Sports', because I don't watch anything else. If you watch series as well then £36 sounds like a decent price.

Well I've cancelled. I've just got tv so we shall see what happens.

Rest of post removed as I got loads of pms asking for my cheap provider.

It was a case of connecting the sky hard drive and the new hard drive to the pc and using the utility program to copy the recordings etc across, then just putting the new drive in the box.

However the box was a total bitch to open, instead of screws it had weird metal bits that had to be twisted with pliers and I cut myself on the sharp edges of the box and got blood all over it.

I also found that because the drive is bigger it caused a short in the DRX890 model box and I had to place a piece of cardboard between the new hard drive and the circuit board above.

That sounds relatively straightforward, might give it a go soon.

I still wish Sky would just let you opt out of having a chunk of the HDD 'reserved' for the Showcase thing or whatever it's called now.

You don't get a massive portion reserved when you upgrade the hdd, it's only the new boxes that come with a 2TB hard drive that have that.

my contract is due soon but I think I have a decent deal now anyway so will see if I can get it even better ;)
£41 for HD with line rental and broadband - no fibre where I live ;(
