*** Sky TV Cancellation & Negotiation Thread ***

so my multi room is now gone, but my sky had box only shows the basic 5 channel a? can't get free view?? any ideas why not? Surely it's able to do free view..

You need to phone sky up and request a card at a £25 one off charge.

Or you can try ebay for sub £5 no idea if they work/how reliable though.

Misschief/Tess - any sky discounts availiable in the next 3-4 weeks? We're moving from a Virgin area to a non virgin area and it's a toss up between sky and BT, looking at fibre and a basic TV package, does the discount apply to everything?

Oh and been a while since we gamed, I haven't been on AVF much either in the last year - hope you're keeping well bud :)

I'm thinking about cancelling Sky, but am not sure what I should replace it with. I currently have just the HD entertainment package + Sky Sports F1 + Multiroom.

I watch quite a few series on several channels most of which are available on freeview (although not in HD in some cases)

Main things I will miss are F1 (i'll have to deal with the bbc highlights) and Sky Atlantic because of Game of Thrones and a couple of other series...but I guess these can be 'acquired' in other ways.

What have other people moved on to after cancelling Sky?

Nowtv, far cheaper and just as good. It has al the important channels live and an extensive on demand service.
You can stream in two devices at anyone time and have 4 devices registered.

For f1 watch half on BBC and half go on ebay and get cheap nowtv sports passes. same can be done for films if you want films. Always plenty on ebay.

It's what I have
Free sat
NowTv entertainment & movies + sports when needed
Netflix
Amazon prime

I would tend to agree, the only aspect I miss is not having the syfy channel - I suspect others may have other channels they would like but it is significantly cheaper. Been on a free 6 months entertainment pass from 2 chromecasts :) I have similar to you but no amazon prime - really didn't like their service and I don't think it supported Chromecast?

No idea about chromecast, I use a tiny windows pc. Between the streaming and free shipping it's worth it. the last couple of months it's improved a lot and a fair bit of content I want on it now. Be nice if it was all on one service, but that's to exclusivity deals it won't be.

i might just add the sports when we get it all installed. and see if i can blag any more off a 50% Discount when i do it. Not holding much hope though

Just had a look and it seems good. I already have a PS3 and PS4 so could use it on that as well :)

Only downside I can see is it's only 720p for some reason!

I've not noticed that - i'll try it out tonight as I have a 50' screen and see if it is obvious on the Chromecast.

Note with Nowtv you have a max of 4 registered devices you can use and a Chromecast is counted as a device, So we have 3 Chromecasts registered and one phone. Unregistered phones can control the chromecasts but they can't display the content - it does work :) Only 2 devices can work at any one time

I'm currently paying £84.40 a month for Fibre Pro, Sky Talk Freetime and TV (comprising of Variety, HD pack and Sky + HD - so no sport or movies but everything else).

Now seriously contemplating getting the TV part of my package cancelled as £38 a month for it seems rather excessive, especially as I live in a flat with only one dish input, rendering Sky+ pretty useless sometimes.

What are the chances of me getting some sort of deal if I ring to cancel just the TV part, as I really do not want to cancel Fibre or the phone part?

Been a customer for 8 years. Now out of contract with everything.

My last sky deal ended so time to call up and cancel again. It's a stupid process really, and it's a big reason as to why we need some real competition in the TV market.

You can always change the LNB on the dish for more inputs if you wanted sky in 2 rooms.

If he's on a communal dish system, and living in a flat with only one feed it would suggest he is, that's not an option open to him.

I am indeed on a communal system which is annoying when a) something goes wrong and it takes an age to get them to fix it and b) for the aforementioned recording restriction having only a single input :)
