*** Sky TV Cancellation & Negotiation Thread ***

question:

What is a proper alternative to sky/virgin/freeview etc?

What if someone doesn't want any TV subscriptions?

Is there an 'internet' TV service instead?

I just find Sky, Virgin etc all a waste of money as I doubt I'd watch most of them

It has been covered through this thread, If you want an alternative to sky then nowtv is it - pretty cheap and with a chromecast or a smart tv very seamless. Subscription is on a per month basis. Price I think is £6.99 a month for entertainment and £8.99 for Movies. Netflix is also good if you like the shows they have. BBC Iplayer through a smart tv or chromecast will also work and the ITV services will work on a smart tv but not the chromecasts.

I think that covers it - I have 5 TVs of which 4 only have a chromecast connected to them - no other means of receiving a TV signal

Just cancelled Sky as we're moving to freesat.

Rep wouldn't have any of it on the phone after half an hour I nearly lost it. They must be really eager to keep customers

Why would you want to leave sky sir we have the most comprehensive range of hd movies blah blah blah

pity you always show the same crap and then wonder why people cancel

I never got a call. Cancelled everything and using Freesat now with one of those new humax boxes. The humax is godly! It arranges files from usb onto its own hd too. I use a vpn to watch every single BPL match via an NBC sports annual £25 account anyway. Totally legit way of paying for sports at non extortionate prices.

Can you please let me know which humax box you have please

I'm soon to be a new Sky customer, anyone got any deals/advice on getting good deals?

I hear a bit of banter with the online chat sometimes helps :P.

Thanks.

Jut had a discussion with Sky about my bill and I never realised I was paying £21.50 a month for HD movies! I rang up for a problem with my Sky box but wanted to discuss my bill as something didn't quite add up after looking at the website.

I thought I was on Family Pack £33 + Movies £16.50 giving me HD channels for those packages however I was paying approx. £54 a month. What it turns out I was paying was Variety £28 + Movies £16.50 + HD Mix £10.25.

Since when did you have to pay for movies then pay extra for the HD version of the movies? Never remember that being the case when I first subscribed to HD. It was you got the HD free as long as you had a premium package (movies or sports).

Needless to say I got put through to cancel the movies and they dropped the extra £5 for 8 months, but I think after October I'll be dropping the movies completely. £6.99/Mo Netfllix, £79/Yr Prime, £21.50/mo Sky movies ... no thanks!

It's odd because if you take their internet arm it's £9.99 on Now TV for the movies which is a far more realistic price.

Im in my last month of contract, due out in a week. What is best to do right now threaten to leave and what discount can i expect up to? Or start a new account with my fiance?

Guys, is it possible to cancel Sky via their live chat? I don't have access to a phone in my day to day work as strange as it sounds and live chat is a lot easier despite them being constantly "busy".

Cheers

Morning,

Had a bit of a shuffle around in the house and now want our Sky+ box (2 feeds) in another room. We have two other multiroom boxes and just want to swap the + box with a multiroom box. However Sky in all their wisdom only ran 1 feed to each of the multiroom boxes which leaves moving a + box redundant. Will Sky do anything about this or am I going to have to pay for a 3rd party to come in and do it? The satelite is on the roof bolted onto the chimney and i'll be ******* if i'm doing it myself. :p

Unfortunately as soon as you tell then you want to cancel, they will tell you they need to call you as cancellations have to be carried out over the phone, or at least thats what happened to us, followed by a million questions about what we watch.

I always stay polite on calls like this but it got ridiculous to the point I did lose my temper, then the guy on the line clearly got really ****ed off, you can only ask me if I watch the history channel so many times before I'm going to get sick of it.

I thought this would happen also regarding me having to phone back but he did it all on the chat, it did take an hour odd mind but I'm just doing it whilst working so kept answering the tedious questions on what my wife, daughter, dog watches.

They offered me a full package for £57 but after paying £35 for the past year it still seems too much considering we barely use it. I'll miss the footy though, grrr.

Just got off the phone with cancellations, pretty disappointing.

Currently pay
Sky TV Family £33
Sky Fibre £20
Sky Talk Weekends £17.40
Total £70.40/month

They offered me a £10 discount on my TV for 12 months and 1/2 price fibre for 6 months (stating I can call up in 6 months to get a further offer).

Means £50.70 for 6 months then I need to hope for another fire deal or be stuff with £60.40 for the remaining 6 months.

Sounded like there was nothing extra they would do for me.

can i ask how you get the BPL using nbc? and what is the quality like?
i am up for paying a reasonable fee for the footy etc but not what virgin/sky charge

I would guess VPN + hacked account. So not so legit, unless I'm missing another way they have brought out recently.

The quality will be better than sd but not as good as a hd broadcast.
