*** Sky TV Cancellation & Negotiation Thread ***

Freesat works with your existing Sky dish so you can go for that and then stream from other services like Prime and Netflix. This is what I'll be doing after I cancel tonight. Apparently they're hiding the price hike behind the entertainment packages, but it is supposedly to cover the costs that they have incurred with the Premier League matches deal. People are saying to expect more within the next 6 months too!

Sky have said publicly there will be no further rises until next year?

Where have they said that? Their prices rose by £5 for me last year August / September, and now they're going up again. Supposedly they're not allowed to rise by more than 10% in a year, so I reckon that they'll rise again in September this year by another 5% or so. Others on forums on the internet agree. V F has posted links.

At my work......

So the big series on channels like Sky Atlantic such as The Walking Dead and Game Of Thrones, if you ditch Sky, is there a way to still watch these?

Literally do not miss it one bit especially with Netflix, Chromecast, HTPC - I just dont see the point unless you like UK sports.

Netflix is mostly old stuff though, if you want to keep up with the majority of decent US dramas you need Sky. Even Virgin wouldn't appeal to me because it's missing Sky Atlantic.

Dat 200MB download though?

I'm not missing it at all. The only thing I do miss is live sports as I've switched from sky sports to bt sport, it still has live sports but nowhere near as many as sky sports has.

Just got the same letter.. Waiting online to live chat about my cancellation...

Good luck, you'll be at least an hour in that chat session. If you cancel you'll immediately see there's a 35% offer in your account panel on the site, so just keep asking to cancel and then do that if you want a better deal. I'd personally look elsewhere though. New customers are getting the best deals, loyal customers get a load of rubbish.

Unfortunately where I am I can only get Sky for TV. For broadband Sky is the fastest (at a claimed 9mb, although it's actually more like 14mb).

BT were quoting 3mb I think

Then process the cancellation and then wait it out for a few weeks. They will call you back with a better deal than you'll get through retentions. I've already been offered 35% off through my account page on their website, and the cancellation only went through today.

Did that when my 50% expired last time. They offered a deal which worked out close to 45% in the end which I took. Still waiting online, now on the phone as well!

Well, really disappointed. Spoke to them on the phone, and apparently they are allowed to increase the price once per year.

I thought they were only allowed to it based on the inflation, guess I was mistaken.

There is always NowTV for Sky Sports. I bought a NowTV box ages ago with some Sky Sports vouchers (probably expired now) as we were going to give up Sky and use NowTV to watch the live matches we wanted. In end never used it as I am still on a roll of discounts. Also with the NowTV box I did read you can mod it to get access to more (legal) TV Channels not sure whether you can now. Think it was a bit like rooting an Android device.

I can't quite remember when it started but my last few years with Sky have been like this.

1. Won year worth of free sky with Kellogs (full package)
2. End of free period rang to cancel then offered Sky for 6 months with half price Sky Sports (no movies)
3. Two months later won another year worth of free Sky in another competition
4. End of free period rang to cancel. Was transferred to a "secret" Service Desk as I was still classed as a VIP subscriber (due to competition win). Could not find out about this much but apparently there is another tier of subscribers just known as VIP members. Suspect its for employees maybe
The attitude on this VIP Service Desk was unbelievable they could not do enough for me. They bent over backwards basically and I got another year of sky with free sky sports (paid for just basic package)
5. Then my VIP status was removed so I asked to cancel. Was offered same package but half price Sky Sports for 12 months.
6. Same as 5.
7. End of half price deal and was given 33% off for another 12 months.
8. End of that deal brings us to 2015 and last month said I would cancel as its costing two much and got half price Sky Sports for another 9 months.

Everytime I have said I would a cancel, even if I didnt get an offer straight away you can guarantee give it a week or two and they ring back with an offer.

Now TV for sky sports? It's like £5-10 per day is it not?

I don't think that is an ideal solution. I'd rather pay the £30 a month than pay by day.

TBH though when I had sky sports there was only a handful of games I actually did watch so I'm content with MOTD, BT Sports and BBC/STV offerings for football now.

NowTV for Sky Sports is £11 per week.

Does anyone know what the best reason for cancelling is? (for getting the best offer to stay)

Currently waiting for chat to be available

Don't try and get an offer to stay. I cancelled, it takes 31 days notice, but now when I log into my account I already have an offer for 35% off. I've never had 35% off from trying to get a better offer to stay.
