Sky vs Virgin packages

Why sky over virgin for TV? We had sky and now have Virgin and from what i can tell have every channel we did on sky + the added benefit of having a massive selection of catchup and on demand tv.
 
Only experience i've had with Virgin on demand was in leicester and it was extremely sluggish. I was using it to watch smallville, and it was prone to freezing up.

never had that trouble with Sky, But it could be an isolated incident with Virgin, as its the only time I've used it.
 
I have to disagree. For me...

Virgin - much quicker box, on demand stuff is great, no picture degradation in bad weather, pretty much same channel choice, v box has bluuuu leds, etc
 
The on-demand services provided by Sky are being revamped soon (well Tuesday).
The new service is called Sky Anytime + and will FINALLY involve your receiver making use of its ethernet jack.

You'll need a Sky Broadband subscription to use this service but it's going to be rolled out to all subscribers eventually, regardless of which ISP they use.
 
Ive got the full lot with Virgin and couldnt be happier tbh

With regards TV, id agree if you want all the bells and whistles and are looking to pay upwards of £80 per month, then Sky have loads more options.... more HD (mainly their own channels ie Movies/Sports) and then they have 3D coming in, but again its technology at a price which you might not really want.

As for BB it has to be Virgin upto 50Mb cable, no problems with speeds for me at all and thats using wireless on 2 Laptops, Console, Ipod Touch etc - Sky always try to blag me when they knock the door that do I really need 20Mb and can Virgin guarentee that speed... I say yes, it does and if I really wanted to go back to using a BT line for broadband, then the poxy 5mb max that id get off of that is barely worth me having internet for.

Phone is a much of a much'ness.

V+ is fantastic though, I believe it beats the Sky version by letting your record 2 channels at the same time, whilst watching a different 3rd.... Sky lets you record 2, but you have to watch one of the two (or at least have one of them running).

Yes i might be a Virgin fanboy (i did have Sky previously but once i moved to a Cable area there was no choice) but the value for money is there, im on XL, XL, L with 2 boxes V+ for £45 p/m iirc - if I price that up on Sky, im looking at £60-70 quid so its a no brainer.

Also not sure if Sky offer this now, but Virgin has a free phoneline for all support/CS queries... for Sky I was always on to them on a 0845 number costing me an arm and a leg just because they didnt understand how to bill me correctly.

I know it's a bit late in the thread but in top of what's been said about box performance, I've always found my Sky boxes to be pretty nippy. My Sky+ box is definitely slightly slower than my normal Sky box though.

I've always found Virgin boxes to be pretty slow, but haven't used one in a few years.

But that is not a regular deal available is it. My XL TV, L (10mb BB) and normal landline is £46.
 
Virgins broadband is far better and the TV is good now too.

My main gripe with the TV was the slow boxes but now im pretty sure all standard installs use the new Cisco HD box and its super fast.

As has been said before - Virgins on demand, catch up and iplayer on the box is outstanding.
