Currently with sky for the lot, HD, phone, and Internet (16mb). Paying around £50 a month.

Thinking of jumping over to Virgin for a similar package.

Would it be a wise move?

Depends what you use it for.

If you wanted you could switch over to a faster Internet connection, but on the other hand you'd lose a lot of HD channels (if you have them at the moment) like Sky Sports HD and Sky Movies HD

VM has Very little HD stuff.
Think we've watched BBC HD a little bit and a couple of PPV HD movies.

From what I've heard I would stay with sky tbh

EDIT: just spotted above comment about on demand, this part is faaaaantastic.
Not had any issues with access or streaming, it's just always worked :)

Virgin on demand stuff is great. Can't commend on the HD side of things as I don't have it but if you can't get Sky Sports HD on Virgin like someone said above I'd probably stick with Sky?

I changed from Sky HD+ to Virgin HD last month. The Virgin box is so much better than the Sky box and there are only a few channels less as I didn't watch Sky Sports or Movies.

Overall I'd say Virgin is better... and their broadband is massively better aswell.

Other little things like Virgin being free to phone is another one to think about, Sky are a pain when you need to phone them and they keep you on the phone for ages... costing you money. Also they try all kinds of cheap tricks when you leave, so be aware of that and make sure you cancel the direct debit or I guarantee they'll take more money than they should at some stage. Don't like Sky at all.

I found the Sky HD box to be better in every way than the Virgin offering, especially with the new menu. Plus they have massively more HD content and will continue to have that edge for a long time yet.

Virgin does have a decent VOD service, but Sky are introducing a VOD service soon as said too.

The only advantage Virgin has is on the broadband front. I solved that by having Sky TV with Virgin Internet :p

Ermmmm NO! Big mistake. There HD contend is second to none and VM dont have a patch on it. Stick with SkyHD cant get better in the UK.

Sky only offers extra channels on HD that only a handful in the UK would ever consider watching. Unless you get sky movies or sky sports I would certainly go back to virgin. Broadband is miles better. Can record 2 channels and watch a 3rd. Virgin on demand is amazing.

Yeah so like I said a lot more ;) Ohhh you can get ITV HD on sky too.

Thats it, i dont bother with the movies or sports. House is up for sale so i think when were in the next one, i'll jump over to Virgin. As i said before, i download a fair bit of HD content so a 50meg line will be nice!

oh and i forgot...i'm fed up of the sky HD box crashing all the time! already done the PSU fix on it and its still crap.

So sky movies, sky sports and then mainly pap.

So you get three extra channels with sky the rest are pointless and pay £10 a month for the privilege. As I said pointless unless you sign up for movies/sports

170 Sky One HD Sky One
214 SCI FI HD Sci-Fi channel
Discovery HD

It's like the whole free minutes with mobile phones. Ohh I pay extra for all these minutes, how many do you use, oh no even 25% of hem. Same with this. How many of hose extra sky HD channels will you watch for an extra £10 a month.

History HD
Nat Geo HD
ITV HD
SciFi HD (Has some good classic movies on)

The above pap????

If you want HD go sky no two ways about it, if you want fast Internet or on demand stuff than Virgin, simple.

Except it costs a lot more for little benefit. It really depends what channels you will watch. But it certainly is not as one sided as you say. I'm sure ITV HD will be on virgin soon.

It is though, how can you choose an inferior HD service Virgin offer to that off Sky’s HD service? Yes ok if you want the basic HD channels it a close call, but you choose the movies and sports its mile ahead :) I have it for the Sports and Movie channels, but I watch a lot of docs too. I don’t watch SD channels anymore I plan my viewing around the HD channels. Don’t get me wrong VM is an excellent product but for me Sky is far more superior.

As I said if you get movies or sport, their is only one choice. If you don't then virgin wins out imo. Cheaper for almost as much content. Then you have bonus of three tuners, on demand and great internet.

How many people actually watch those extra HD channels with Sky? I certainly don't, so it's wasted money compared to virgin.
