SkylineOwners Invite - Tyne Tunnel Midnight Run 20/11/2010

The reason it is second gear runs is that GTR's can easily do 80mph in 2nd. Thats pretty quick in a tunnel....

To far for me to take mine would cost me over £100 in petrol to get there and back.

I'd go to take some photos but it's a bit late for me, 45 min drive there and the same back when I have football the following morning.

My friend phoned me on Saturday night asking if I wanted to go down as he was going, basically sat in a queue for ages, then hammered it through the tunnel. They pretty much said you can ignore the speed limits, just don't overtake the car in front but they left a reasonable gap between runs too so you would have had to do silly speeds to do so.

"Tunnel is 1.6 miles long so plenty of exhaust appreciation, 1st & 2nd gear runs only"

Only if you can reach 'God knows what' speed by the end of second gear.

Whether the speed limit applies is neither here nor there really if you're not allowed to get into third.
Well my mate runs a 200 with an OSGiken box fitted that will do 60 in first.. so yeah :D

there is a speed limit in the tunnel..its also fully manned 24 hours a day and if they see doolies speeding through the tunnel they will do something about it
..mind its always so damn busy I'm amazed anaybody has ever reached 30mph!!

'The existing vehicle tunnel is a two-way road with a 30 mile per hour speed limit. Customers must pay a toll to use the vehicle tunnel.'

taken from the new tyne tunnel page
http://www.tt2.co.uk/

there are speed limit signs within the tunnel

however with this being a private event it looks like they have organsied it correctly...and it will be a hell of an opportunity to drive through it without it being nose to tail with traffic!
