I don't care one little bit.
If these cameras help to keep me and my family safer then put them everywhere.
I've got nothing to hide.

Benjamin Franklin said:
Those who would give up Essential Liberty to purchase a little Temporary Safety, deserve neither Liberty nor Safety.

Pastor Martin Niemoller said:
First they came for the Communists, and I didn’t speak up,because I wasn’t a Communist.

Then they came for the Jews, and I didn’t speak up,because I wasn’t a Jew.

Then they came for the Catholics, and I didn’t speak up,because I was a Protestant.

Then they came for me, and by that time there was no one leftto speak up for me.

It's not about having "nothing to hide," which is also one of the most retarded phrases ever conceived (up there with "PC gone mad."). It's about having privacy and the freedom to move without having every single movement traced.

Millions of people have died over many centuries fighting for freedom just to have those with a disgustingly apathetic "nothing to hide" attitude slowly and knowingly push for a mass errosion of those very freedoms.

Or to put it another way - Millions have died so millions more can say "I don't care." It's quite insulting really.

The famous Franklin quote already mentioned sums it up perfectly.

I care and have been banging on about this for years. Every day they add another bar to the cage that will become a prison island - mark my words, your children will ask why didn't you do something about it.

I also ask the mods to immediately permaban anyone that posts the most naive statement in the history of mankind, "You have nothing to fear if you have nothing to hide." Don't even go there.

Today a new national sport wa created - Bait the Camera. What a ******* joke and a very scary one at that. What next? Robots patrolling the street 24 hours a day controlling man's every action. The sooner I leave this country the better. :(

A rare day indeed at OcUK, I agree with Visage.

Excellent quotes and sums it all up very nicely. :)

Awesome quote!

Cameras upset me. They're everywhere but they are no replacement for on-the-streets police.

Probably the same people who would moan why there weren't any cameras covering the area their car was stolen/vandalised in. ;)
"You, chav! Stop stealing that car otherwise I will tell you not to steal it again."

We need police on the streets not cameras.

The problem is that these talking cameras will only work for a short time whilst they're something new and unknown. It won't take long for the scum to realise that the voice talking to them has no means or power to stop them doing what they're doing and they'll then become an ineffective waste of money.

The logical conclusion, in the eyes of a politician, is to add a gun and turn it into an ED-209 from robocop. Far fetched? you just wait.....

Mate, we're in a big surveilance society, I don't care because theres sod all we can do about it.
It's all good and well cacthing crminals but no one seems to know how to punish them "Sadistic murder of your wife and kids, um, 100 hours community service, next please"

Its all very well saying that, but to have an effect on crime you'd need enough police to ensure a high probability of catching folk in the act. It would be hideously expensive, and deeply unpopular.

I read somewhere, I cant remember where that 20% of the world's CCTV cameras are in the UK.

Its a funny subject, this 'surveillance culture'. It shows in the topic, people's views and how subjective they are, on one hand you have people so concerned with their own freedoms and liberties, getting on their high horse about the protection of "freedom" which by definition is an abstract notion, one man's freedom is another man's sentence.

That quote from Benjamin Franklin is completely flawed, he's saying that people who choose to use their freedom to think differently to him are less than an equal to those who agree with him. But the whole idea of freedom and liberty is those people are as free as you to think and do what they want even if that is to be completely apathetic and to think of them or treat them as inferior is a suspension of their freedoms.

I don't agree with cameras on every street but they do have their uses in city centres for spotting violence, theft and drug dealers. I don't think they should be used in the suburbs.
