Sli 7900Gt 256mb vs 9800gt 1gb

my 8800gt totally slams my old 7950gt out of the water

I'd suspect 8800gt (9800gt) would be better than SLI 7900gt

plus, less power usage

id imagine 9800gt, simply because its a single gpu, sli/cf isnt p2p in my book

plus the 7900gt's are only 256mb, giving poorer higher res performance, and they can't do DX10.


the 7900gt was riddled with problems in Vista (only some cards, but still)

its actually for use with wow, had a look and it doesnt support sli i dont think, so the 9800gt should be a lot better.

should be able to get an 8800gt 512mb for around £40-50

could sell the 7900gt's for aroudn £20-30 each (if you're lucky)

I upgraded from a heavily oc'd 7950GX2 to an 8800GT and didn't think I'd see a difference but infact everything was smoother and most games were 30% or so higher fps.

This seems about right, IIRC a 7950GX2 was somewhere between the 8800GTS (G80) and 8800GTX when the latter cards launched. Driver improvements would increase this gap so increased performance doesn't seem suprising.

In some games like crysis the 8800GT is over twice as fast - whereas other games like ETQW the 7950GX2 could pull ahead of the 8800GTX/9800GTX even... but in most cases the 8800GT/9800GT will be atleast 30% faster and also smoother.
