Hi,

I have a choice of sli 8800gt with a 8400 on a asus p5n-e or a 8800gts 512 on a p5k premium q6600 @3.3ghz.
What would be best choice please for speed

i think the single 8800GTS is faster, as im not sure if a 8800GT and 8400 can be linked in sli anyways and if they could, its more than likely your 8800GT will run at 8400 speeds

He is sli-ing 2 8800gt's with a e8400 processor so the 8800gt in sli would be the faster machine. For me i would go with the 8800gt sli setup.

Id go for the GTS 512mb and the Quad at 3.3ghz. :)

SLi is to much bother, doesn't work in everything, so if games are not SLi supported, then your only going to be running on 1x 8800 GT (which is slower than the GTS, not by much at lower res's, but gap widens the higher you go), its only of real benefit at very high resolution's (where the GTS would be quite a bit better in non SLi supported games than a single GT) will give out to much heat, need to much power, be a lot louder, and you would have to overclock ther CPU quite a bit to benefit them, where as the GTS 512mb will run its full speeds all the time, and the CPU's nicely clocked for it, and you could probably take it higher without to much trouble.

Get the SLI setup and stick with the dual core, just overclock it. Anything not supporting SLI is virtually nil, the frame rate gains are far higher than you'll get wasting money on quad core processors, low latency ram, raid 0 etc etc, it's easy to set up and I've personally found it excellent at anything over 1600x1200. ;)

8800GT SLI would give you the biggest gains for your money... tho you'd spend an extra £50 or so on the single GTS. In the situations where SLI isn't supported you won't be that far behind a single GTS and in situations where it is supported you will see quite big gains over a single GTS.
