yeh the 780i is the socket 775 mobo the 790i is the 1156?
my bro and me did a build on one so... i was pretty stumped when you said it was socket 1156 bare in mind it wasnt invented at the time xD !!!!
If you just want 2 pci-e slots the little brother of that would do probally the 680i LT which i am currently running in my build
great little budget board with great overclocking ability's th 780i is just a bit quiter and has 3 pci-e slot and one extra pci i think
Anyway
Let us know what you pick in the end
The 790i is a 775 socket! i went from a 650i with 8x to a 790i with 16x and running both @ 4ghz SLI and the 650i @ max oc seen no obvious difference in benchmarks!the only difference was the 790i oc to 4.8 before it threw in the towel and died with the e8400 surviving the ordeal!Cost effective the 790i is a bad buy as ddr3 memory will have to be purchased along with the board! The 780i you are looking at will cost in the region of £80 along with your gpu! why don't you wait for a while until you have more funds for a more modern upgrade and sell your cpu?"All things come to those who wait" or something like that!![]()
The 780i is a ddr2 board is it not? the 790i is the ddr3 board!![]()
