SLi vs. 1x ATi card?

I'm just wondering really, would two 256MB 7300 cards be close to the same as an ATi X1800XT ?

I've been offered a 7300 for free as my X1800XT has died on me (it's back with the manufacturer for repairs or something), and so I was wondering how well 2x 7300 256MB cards would handle, seeing as they don't cost much I may aswell pick up a second card and SLi it...but only if it makes a big enough difference to the power of the PC.

I run all games at 1280*1024 as that's the native res of my monitor. I don't usually use AF or AA.

A friend of mine did exactly that, sold a x1800XT and got two 7300 GT GDDR3s. If you volt mod (pencil mod) them and clock them, there is a drop but not too bad.

I can't see two 7300s doing the business to be honest, and I'd just keep the X1800 when it's back.

Actually, it won't be coming back as they're not around anymore. Chances are you'll get an X1950Pro/XT back.

Well the 7300 is from a mate, so I'm taking one atleats , and ANYTHING is better than the 4MB PCI card I found laying around the house...although it does fo 1280*1024 in windows...but on 16bit colour.

The thing about getting the old card back is that Connect3d like to take months to sort out these problems, which means I could be in for a lengthy wait. I will try the Trading Stardards things people have memtioned before for RMAs.

I'm mostly waiting for an ATi R600 card that's not too steep on pricing to replace the X1800, but I know that one 7300 will perform very poorly, so was thinking as I have an SLi mobo...

Can you have different cards in SLi? as in like say 7300 and an 8800?

My overclocked 7300GT played BF2142 @ 1280x1024 really well. Medium/High details at a very respectable FPS.

Shame, else I could grab a slightly better card and stick them together.

I'll find out if/when it arrives just what card it is, so can see if I can clock it etc.

I wouldnt bother. SLI 7300GTs would be crap compared to your X1800XT.

Just game in 1024x768 on the single GT until your card gets repaired.

7300GT SLI is barely going to have half the performance of a x1800XT...

Ok, well the free card is turning up tomorrow morning aparently, so I'll see how it performs, but I'll leave off getting a second one, don't really need the power as yet, having exams at uni soon and all.

Just hope my X1800XT either comes back all working, or I get some form of replacement.
