Hi, i have recently got 8mb broadband from UKOnline and some downloads go at between 350kb/s and 450kb/s but others go around the 100kb/s to 200kb/s which i thought was slow for 8mb so i did a speed test online and it says my connection is 2617kbps is there anything i can do, like change settings or get a new router that will get me at least a decent speed?

Thanks

edit: also my router is an Actiontec 54mbps wireless dsl gateway

Hi, thanks for the reply UKOnline said that I wouldnt be able to recieve full 8mb but I would be able to get atleast 5mb but im not even getting that. Any ideas?

Thanks a lot for your help

Hi, Sorry for being a noob but im not sure how to find these ,i can access my router ok but i cant find the stats you asked for.

Thanks

Yet another case of UKOnline promising more than they could deliver.

Other than firmware upgrade, pass on where line stats will hide out.

Hi, Sorry for all the questions but would doing anything like moving my router eg(to mater socket) getting better cables or a new router increase the speed at all?

Thanks very much to everyone who has helped

It might, without stats it's hard to say.

Unless you can extract then with the router, you're mostly stuck.
If they can be bothered, UKOnline can extract them remotely though.

Hi, I upgraded the firmware on my router and it now shows line stats:
They are

Current sync speed: 3392/704
SNR Margin Down/Up: 5/6
Attenuation: Down/Up 48/52
Transmitt Power Down/Up: 18/11

Thanks a lot for all your help

Try your master socket with no extensions connected, see if that sync rate goes up.

Let's face it, with that attenuation you'd get 1Mbps at best under current BTw prequalification rules, getting ~3Mbps isn't too bad :p

Hi, When the routers connected to the master socket i get:

Sync speed: 3680/704
SNR Margin down/up: 5/6
Transmitt power down/ up: 18/11
Attenuation down/up: 48/52

Thanks a lot
