My internet is REALLY unstable, it cuts out at random times, and sometimes doesn't come back for a while, it's connected at 283k download / 440k upload, i'm guessing BT capped the line because it was flagged as unstable. But it's still ridiculous. My isp is ADSL24, i've sent numerous support tickets, they said they'll contact enta but that was over 2 weeks ago, does anyone have any idea what it could be? I've tried 2 routers, tried the BT test socket, tried the BT i-plate, tried different ethernet cables etc.

£30/month for 256k that doesn't even work properly is annoying.

First question is whether there is any noise on your phone line - if there is then report it as a voice fault to BT.

Otherwise, did you noticed the attenuation or noise margin going up or down when you tried the master socket, different router, iplate, etc. If your line has been capped to your current slow speed, then that's probably what you'd see alter as you changed things if the problem was at 'your end'.

I know how frustrating it can be as I had a similar problem recently. It would work fine then intermittently lose sync, and eventually resync at a very slow speed. In my case it turned out to be a faulty switch mode power supply in the house that was presumably kicking out so much HF noise that it interfered with the ADSL router via the mains... (and I was convinced the problem was at the exchange or cabling to the house).

Suggest you have a read at http://www.kitz.co.uk/adsl/rein.htm and try running something like RouterStats that will log/plot the line stats reported by your router. You might spot a correlation that might help.
