Slow Speeds with Crucial M4

ok i have had a thought also that because i multi boot i do not have ahci enabled

i boot when i selct my ssd drive in like 20 -25 seconds compared to minutes on my normal drives and it does obviously seem a hell of a lot quicker but i still feel i may be missing out on a bit

i think i should try it with nothing else running also

okie so those r mine any good ? or do i need to tweak

You're running on the Marvell controller, try it on the Intel controller. You may need to reinstall Windows, haven't tried swapping them over like that personally. Make sure it's AHCI mode in the BIOS

ok at work now so can look at it but if i enable the AHCI in bios will i still be able to mutli boot into other hdds? i read somewhere if enabled it would disable it, sounds weird, will have to check my bios settings when home later

hhhmn weird i just tried setting all to AHCI and couldnt boot gonna play with stuff a bit and see what i get i may disconnect all my other drives and try with just the ssd on sata 1 instead of 6 my only concern is messing up my multi boot time will tell suck it and see i guess.

Hi craarc,

If you installed windows in IDE mode you need to change a registry value before you can boot in AHCI. Here's a guide - http://forums.guru3d.com/showthread.php?t=313676

thx for advice i changed the reg setting from 3 to 0 set everything to ahci moved the ssd up the drive sequence to boot 1st and it just hangs at the motherboard splash screen and cant get any further like that went back ti ide mode botted first time.

do you think its because i multi boot and have like 5 drives with operating systems on them i use easy bcd to multi boot btw if that makes any diference im sure it wont.

just seems strange that i cant get past that splash screen in ahci mode... sat and waited for ages also so it wasnt like i waited 30 seconds. hmmmmn

appreciate the help btw.

im still on the marvel controller btw ( cause of my other drives) maybe i should move them all about and see if it makes a diference? and also although it says 0309 frimware for the drive when i do an update with the crucial app it says drive does not need updating and drive gives me this info

am i being rtarded and missing something silly here?

should i just disable all other drives for the time and just see what speeds i get with the ssd connected then set up my multi boot later ?

Hi craarc,

I've got no experience of 'Easy BCD', so I dont speak with any authority - but I wonder if 'Easy BCD' doesn't like the shift to AHCI mode (I guess Easy BCD sits on one of your disks as the equivalent to an MBR, to govern which system you boot to). Does Easy BCD have any documentation you can have a look at?

If all your other OS's have been implemented in IDE you may also have a problem booting to them under AHCI

Perhaps you can simply reinstall Easy BCD under AHCI.

I also dont have experience of flashing Crucial M4 SSDs - it would probably be best for you to visit their forum for advice (I'd hazard a guess that you need to be in AHCI mode to perform a successful flash).

thx bud

im thinking along the same lines tbh
i may just dc all my other drives then try then swap back again and see when i have time

im sure the drop not that i fel its slow by any means makes that much of a diference in all honesty but i guess you know what its like trying to get it exactly how u want it

easy bcd btw is amazing

http://neosmart.net/EasyBCD/ a really good community for multi booters etc and mahmoud is a really nice guy

i havent been on the forums there in an age tbh so i will ask over there ..

tend to get tracked into one line of thought and forget the preripherels like its right in front of you and still can see it.

thx for the input
