Quick question.

got a f-190hd abit fatal1ty board with e6600 and 4gb of ram running vista 64bit.

Hard drives are 2 * 500gb samsung 7200rpm with 16mb cache in each one.

Hard drives are setup using RAID 0.

Hd tune and hd tach (when run in compatabile mode) give really really poor bench marks:
HD Tune: ATI 2+0 Stripe/RAID0 Benchmark

Transfer Rate Minimum : 0.2 MB/sec
Transfer Rate Maximum : 4.6 MB/sec
Transfer Rate Average : 3.2 MB/sec
Access Time : 20.2 ms
Burst Rate : 3.6 MB/sec
CPU Usage : 4.5%

Have downloaded and currently using the latest drivers from abit.

Is there any known issues or problems or am i doing something stupid?

Any help appreciated.

yes defn enabled. re: cache.

though just after looking at windows performance tools and it gives it a 5.9!

Does anyone know of a reliable 3rd party hd bench mark for vista 64bit?
hd tune is 2.53
thanks

HDTach works fine in compatability mode here.

I assume that Windows isn't painfully slow to boot? Have you tried copying something big off a CD/DVD and seeing what Vista itself reports the transfer rate to be?

Hey nickcardwell, their is a file transfer problem in Vista, it does seem much slower than what it was in XP.

The two newly released updates which are below, fixed quite a few issues in Vista, so if you haven`t already downloaded and installed them, i would higly suggest doing so. They do make Vista a lot better.

Update for Windows Vista for x64-based Systems (KB938194)

Update for Windows Vista for x64-based Systems (KB938979)

As well as the above try this little tweak, it certainly made a diffrence for me. :)

How to fix the slow file transfers problem in Vista:

When moving from Windows XP to Vista, I noticed that file transfers were much slower. The cause of slow file operations in vista is Remote Differential Compression, we have to disable this feature, so to do so do the following:

Open up Control Panel, then go to Programs and then Programs and Features. Select Turn on or off Windows features on the left hand side. Then uncheck Remote Differential Compression and press ok.

Hopefully that helps. :)

patches have been installed.
still no joy.

when copying a file to a different folder on the same hard drive (180mb file) it reports transfer rates between 300k and 3MB a second!

plan tonight is to :
1. roll back the drivers on the raid controller to see if that makes a difference.
2. bench mark again.
if its still slow, im going to break up the raid and just settle for 2 500mb partitions. and bench mark again.

update:
rolled back the drivers on the raid controller , did the trick

HD Tach touches just over 140MB/s at times.

Burst rates at 275.8MB/s
Average read: 112MB/s
Random Access:18.0ms
