"Small car for the urban driver"

Having driven in London (I live in London) I can honestly say a small car is very rarely better off than say a compact saloon.

Maybe it's just me?
Don't be ridiculous, I find my tiny classic cars much easier to get around London than big fat modern cars. No width restriction slows me down, no gap is too small, no lack of road space and no parking space too small. If I take the hotrod through town (which is much much bigger) it's a lot more of a handful.

It's just easier to park a small car - I guess gear ratios are a bit different as well so even with a small engined car you can still nip around

I've never understood this argument either. When was the last time you ever heard of anyone 'nipping around' London at rush hour?

What width restrictions do you regularly encounter that allow a small city car through but not an A5? Why do you need more road space than that which a single lane allows?

The only argument is parking really. Maybe it's slightly easier to change lanes also.

Does a better town car exist than an S600 Mercedes, thinking about it? Not the AMG model, but the S600. Wonderful ride to soak up every bump. Fantastic seemless automatic gearbox and a literally silent engine.

What more do you want around town? What could be a more relaxing way to tackle the traffic?

XJ Jag, Bentley, Rolls, once you hit that level it dosent really matter, all the big 70k plus wafters are pretty much superb.

Absolutely, I wouldn't really want to drive anything else for the mundane day to day stuff. There are much better cars for blasting down some back rounds though certainly, and easier cars to park in small spaces and cheaper cars to run ...but for all round living with, luxury is the way to go :)

There is a big roundabout near me which has lights on it, you often have to shoot between the lights to get in the right lane and having a car that's quick from 0-20mph is handy

The 1.1 Hyundai Getz I used to drive was better for this than my mondeo

10-15 minutes :p ...takes longer to cross Worcester at rush hour than that, let alone Birmingham ...and as for London ...well.

Now that I've moved to the centre of Brussels, I'm sorely tempted to sell my Lolvo to my flatmate and get something small and silly like a Lupo GTI...

The only silly thing about the Lupo GTI is the price they command for what is a very ordinary car indeed.

What you should do is just... drive the Z3. Pointless having it otherwise, its hardly a weekend car is it, it's got an M54B30 in it!

I disagree with your first point, as there are plenty of reviews which beg to differ.

As for the second point.. It's hard to dismiss.
It'd just be a shame to see the Z3 scratched and dented.

Now of course there's no reason why it should be, but I'd hate to see it end up as an abused daily hack.
But as you said, it's not really a weekend toy. And there's no point in buying a low mileage car and keeping it as one for the next owner.
That, and I really could do without the money wastage that is running 2 cars..

There is no reason why it would be scratched and dented. My 530 is my only car, I use it every day. It has not a single scratch on it.

Just a tiny dink :( grr.

At the moment it lives in the garage of a house in a leafy suburb of Brussels.
As of next week, it will be living on the street in the centre of Brussels. It's no dodgy area as it's a stone's throw from the EU, but still, it's no secure garage.
