"Small car for the urban driver"

True but to most people it's just an old Z3 anyway - it's not going to attract attention. Only enthusiasts know what it really is, so you'll probably be just fine.

I love wafting about in my Shogun, In traffic the tick over & auto box takes care off everything & on a run the cruise control takes over. I should have switched to a big engined auto years ago it's such a nicer way to travel.

If everyone drove low emission/high MPG small cars City driving would be a lot better.

Why? ...how could it be better? ...you would still have the same number of vehicles trying to use the roads, and you would still have heavy congestion, noise and unpleasant odours. Too many people crammed into an area too small ...all trying to get to the same places at the same time. You would still have exactly the same problems, the only way you might seriously change that is if the small cars were the size of kiddy cars and thus you could run 2 lanes where previously there was one, but that's not going to happen as some cars are as small as you can reasonbly make them, and they still require pretty much as much room on the road as any other. It wouldn't make any real difference.

I would much rather drive a big wafty, super comnfortable car with an automatic gearbox, big lazy engine and loads of sound proofing thanks. If I had to drive a tiny manual tin can through city traffic I'd be a much angrier person than I already am, and I'm quite angry enough as it is thanks. Fortunately the neo-communists in Brussels haven't tried to force us to do this ...yet, well not directly anyway ...they are trying it in a round about way though.

I have a peugeot 107, love it to bits :D it weighs about 2 stone so its quite nimble and has ridiculously good fuel consumption. Admittedly its my first car, I can only dream of wafting around in a big leather and wood clad saloon, but I'll get there eventually!

It would be better because the emission particulate count would be lower. People would need to stop less and the roads would have more room.

You don't need a large thirsty luxury car in the city. You can have the same level of comfort with a decent small car.

There are no small cars which offer the same level of comfort as something like an S Class Mercedes Benz. None at all.

In your opinion maybe not. But that's just your opinion compared to every other small car you have drove in a city.

I think it's a bit more simple than simply being my opinion - I think really, it's fact.

What small car do you think is as comfortable as a Mercedes S Class then?

Why do you feel you need to drive an S class in the city ?

That wasn't my question, I note you've decided not to answer it.

I've already explained why something like an S Class is nice in the city, but I'll do it again.

Large, comfortable leather armchairs. A completely silent high capacity V8 or V12 engine which delivers smooth and silent progress mated to a seamlessly shifting automatic gearbox. Double glazed windows to keep the noise out. A peaceful and serene environment.

You can quite easily argue you personally might not need that in the city - and I'd agree - but you can't argue nobody does, and you can't argue that small cars offer the same level of comforte because they simply do not.

What S class are you talking about ?

The Mercedes S Class?

Pick any recent one you want, S500?

It is almost entirely down to parking. Finding spaces in busy parts of London is hard enough. Trying to find spaces in busy parts of load that can accommodate a 5 meter odd long car is another level of hassle all together.

This is why America has valet parking :(
