My sister needs to replace her dying Astra :(

I think a KA would be good for her, but i dont know anything about them reliability wise.

my sister got a ka about 2years ago i think, shes not had anything wrong with it.

I personally dont like the look of it,but she likes it and it seems reliable for her.

Think he actually ment "ka" :)

The gf is buying one when she passes her test.. i hate them myself.. but i have to admit.. the car suits her bubbly personality.

So any info in here would be good for me also :) as ill be the one finding and fixing the thing lol

I have been driving one of these lovely Ka's 60 miles to work and back everyday for the past month while i have been fiddling with my g40.

To drive they are so easy and require no effort at all like most modern cars. Good turning circle. Personally (i hate it) the steering i find way too light and suspension a bit too slack, car likes to roll about. The clutch i find a bit rubbish, can't ever really feel exactly where the bite is...just sort of happens at some point. On the motorway it seems to drift a lot without really doing anything with the wheel, but around town its fine. Been in a 1.2 clio which is similar i imagine in terms of performance etc and the ride felt much firmer.

My mum has had about 4 of these now and never seemed to have had a problem with them.

All the pedals are super light as well. For a girl that wants a "girly" car i think ka's are good.

Good feedback :)

i didnt care for them myself before i went in one regularly at uni, definitely a girly car but a decent one at that

Anything i should watch out for with these?

On the older ones look out for corrosion on the chassis corner that sits behind the lower-rear door panel when the doors are closed. It sticks out a little and catches stones and grit from the roads. Later models had a painted plastic guard installed.

My wife had a KA a few years ago - I hated it at the time (being a Golf GTi owner) but it was reliable and did really good mpg.

I've got a Ka as my van and I think it's pretty good, good around town, decent handling, easy enough to drive. It's upto 42k miles now abused from day one by BT engineers and the only thing I've had go wrong with it is a blown windscreen wiper fuse. Main criticism is that I don't find the seats terribly comfy, especially for long journeys, but that might be because of my ample backside.

How about a Citroen Xsara 1.4i. Should pick up a fully loaded 1999/2000 reg for about £2k.

she wants a smaller car, and the xsara's weight and bigger engine will set her back in petrol

Maybe later on, but right now she just needs a solid, reliable daily commute car with as small an engine and best mpg possible

noted, i'm actually really hoping she does get one, simply for reliability
