lol alpha 2 on snes was a standstill when custom combo is activated. but it was the first even fighting game with training mode if i remember correctly.

At least these Street Fighter's weren't as bad as the Mega Drive versions of Virtua Fighter. Now that was a complete disappointment for any young kid back then. What the hell was this 80's era crap hahaha! Where's my awesome 3D graphics!

Honestly though, I never really did like the Mega Drive vs SNES arguments because looking back at it now, both consoles came at such weird transitional periods that they themselves could be labelled slightly as different generations. Mega Drive being a product of the late 80's with a 2-3 year start and the SNES came just at the turn of the 90's, no surprises why SNES would be the technologically superior console.

Sega really do seem to have a knack of timing a console release that is in-between generational gaps especially when you consider their later efforts like the Saturn and Dreamcast.

Really? Because the Mega Drive version is a lot more closer to the arcade Champion Edition and Hyper Fighting than people think. Both are the essentially the exact same games under different names associated with the arcade versions.

The sound may have been closer to the arcade original on the megadrive, but the quality was poor fullstop. The game also felt a little more floaty. Not sure how to put it - it just didn't have the weight of the snes version. Possibly due to misising frames of animation or just poorer gfx in general.

Both games are practically the same bar the sound/music differences so I don't know what you are on about. Perhaps you were playing the different modes and got confused by their speed differences?

Both games have one mode based on the arcade Champion Edition, which is the original old school slow ass floaty mode, and the other based on arcade Hyper Fighting, which was the newer, faster and what became standardised mode along with more adjustable speed.

Capcom spent more time making the Mega Drive version, and since it came out after SNES Turbo too. There's a reason why the Mega Drive version was closer to the CPS-1 arcade since the specs of both platforms are quite actually similar (Arcade being clocked much higher), with the same line of CPU (Motorola 68000) and Audio (Yamaha YM) chips.

SNES version of SF2:Turbo was always used in Tourneys, main reason being the pad had 6 buttons. For that reason alone SNES version was superior. IIRC the MegaDrive version had a green costume for M.Bison... nice ;)

The SNES and Mega Drive were the two greatest ever consoles to go toe-to-toe and I refuse to vote for one of them. Ugh.

Mario, Sonic, Streets of Rage, Chrono Trigger, Comix Zone, Final Fantasy, I could go on.

All of the latest modern games today started on the SNES and Mega Drive in earnest.

I'm still waiting for someone to come back on my point about the Megadrive completely pwning the Super Nintendo in the music department.

Oh definitely. You only had to open up Streets of Rage 2. Ball-bustingly awesome techno.

dont know what kind of tourney is that, because tournaments in those days are ran in the arcades. megadrive have a 6 button pad too, just not the default one.

i am amazed that thing even ran the game, admitted in slow motion. vf2 on saturn was the best 3d fighter of its day for me.

Clearly the MS DOS version was the best:

me and my friends played that too! we had to squeeze to one side of the keyboard and elbow each other for it!

That's what I'm thinking too. Must be small scale casual tournaments because a proper one would use the actual arcade machines.

Even then, both SNES and Mega Drive also had their own versions of the Capcom Power Stick Fighter.

I had both consoles on release day and colected around 50 - 60 games for each machine .Would have to say that the snes was the clear winner for me . starfox made my jaw drop like nothing else before .

OMG so many games on both that are still immensely enjoyable today! I love both of them but for me, my fondest memories are of the SNES. It's why I still have one, although it doesn't look great on a 55" TV!

eg:
Megadrive: Streets of Rage/Streets of Rage 2, Sonic 2, Road Rash, Final Fight
SNES: Super Mario Kart, Super Mario World, SF2T, Zelda 3, Super Metroid

Amazing games :D

I'll just leave this here.

The Sega had some great games
But Snes had more

I had a Snes and my cousins a MD

Amazes me these things are still going! How long do consoles last now?

Only thing was the Snes doesn't come in nice black..

A white led too :-)

I voted for the Megadrive, mainly because I didn't own a SNES until its time had passed and was easily distracted away from it by the PlayStation.

Sega always seemed to be cooler than Nintendo.

I had NES then SNES then Megadrive then back to SNES

Mario Kart was the best game ever. Spent many a night, all night, smoking n drinking with mates trying to beat the ghosties on Mario Kart Circuit 4. Everyone kept getting 0.01 faster through the night.

No game has ever matched the fun we had with that. So SNES for me.
