Snooker Open

Didn't he say he's not a big fan of snooker anyway and finds it boring?

Vergo was saying he could have more world titles but he finds the format long and gets bored/loses interest. This shorter thing would suit him more.

I dunno he is quite rude/arrogant at times but it's what makes him the way he is. He seems some what oblivious to his talent and doesn't regard it as anything special.

Be nice to be that good at something and not realize.

I dont think its disrespectfull. Its just Ronnie, thats how he is, and everyone knows that. He has the upmost respect for the game and all the players in it, but when Ronnie goes off on one, he goes off on one!

In my book just because some one has always been a certain way doesn't make it ok for them to carry on being that way.

I love how he knew he could see a 147 after potting 2 balls.

Anyone who playes and/or watches snooker regularly could see that the balls were ideal for a high scoring break and possibly a 147.

F the haters tbh.

It's not about whether people hate him or not, this is about having respect for your opponent and respect for the sport. The word 'mercenary' came to mind watching that tbh, christ, there's enough of that in footy.

Snooker is not just about what you do physically it's also about what you do mentally. If he hasn't got the staying power required for this format then why should the sport change just to suit his concentration levels?

Don't get me wrong, I'm a big fan of Ronnie but just some of the things he does makes me wonder if he truly deserves the respect and support he gets. It's like he thinks the snooker world rotates around him, I'm getting the impression he's acting like a spoilt child more and more these days, one who's gonna take his ball home.

I dont think its a case of doing this to suit him, Hearn said they need to get more people interested and the shorter series will do this. Similar to 20twenty in crick I suppose to ODI.

I would rather watch 20/20 but I also dont mind the longer snooker frames (apart from on a Sunday when it inevitably run on late!)

I believe in one of his books he states he hates snooker but he's good at it and makes a living.

The guy is a masterclass. He sees snooker for what it is, just a game and nothing more, and he happens to find it a very boring game. Thing is though he is very good at it, but not interested in records or achievements or the fans or getting too fussed about anything since it's only a game, but he 'might aswel' if there is money to be made. Just brilliant.

The trouble with the short format is that if a player gets off to a poor start they're out, how many matches has there been where a player is 5 frames down and turns it around? it happens a lot in snooker.

I can't see how a reduction in frames will help recruit new fans, they'll just watch part of one frame and see it as the same boring sport (to them that is).
