SNR Question

Hi all,

What would be an ideal SNR rate to be able to achieve and 8128 connection on adsl MAX?

Impossible to answer really without knowing what you're synced at before ADSL Max and also the SNR. The SNR drops with every speed increment.

If you're already syncing at 8128, in theory, an SNR of 6db should be sufficient to maintain a stable connection.

Hi,

The reason I ask is that when I first went on MAX I synced up at the full 8128/448 connection stable for about 8 days. Now thats dropped to 7080 with my SNR at 15-16db. Surely that gives me plenty of breathing space for the full 8meg connection?

It should do yeah. Someone else with a bit more knowledge should be able to clarify but I've had a similar problem. My line originally synced at 3.7mbit with an SNR of 6db and it stayed at that for a few days - no worries. However, 2 weeks on, my sync speed won't go over 1.8mbit and my SNR is 15db.

I'm not quite sure what's caused this, so if anyone has any suggestions I'd like to hear them too.

The DSLAM and DLM(think of robot in the exchange) has detected your line is unstable, and so has increased your target SNR to counter the "noise" your line has recieved.

Have you noticed your line disconnect regularly?

When the line was at 3.7mbit it was fine, didn't have any disconnections at all that I noticed.

What is weird though - normally SNR is lower in the evenings/overnight for many different reasons and it's higher during the day. My line has completely reversed - the SNR is higher in the day but lower overnight, it's pretty weird.

I've noticed the speeds have started to pick up again though. I've got a funny feeling someone might've been fiddling with the router a fair bit - ie. powering on and off many times.

whats your attenuation? it determines what you sync at. low = good
SNR just needs to be above 6. at 2 meg i had 30dB SN.

this is what i get

ADSL Link Downstream Upstream
Connection Speed 8128 kbps 448 kbps
Line Attenuation 16.0 db 12.0 db
Noise Margin 11.2 db 23.0 db
