so...brake pads? :)

As far as im aware Allied Nippon are just a bog standard pattern part, ive known people who have used them without problem. I wouldnt be surprised if a local motorfactor could supply then around the same price, if not cheaper than the ebay price + postage.

Won't the nippon and the mintex be as good as each other. They are just both OEM replacment pads that work on an "as good or better" scheme.

I can buy both Nippon and Mintex pads here at work. The Mintex do cost more, whether thats an indication of quality/performance I dont really know.

Thanks for the feedback!

Managed to get motorsport to pricematch my ebay prices? :) and grabbed them from there instead just before.

I'd never thought about quality differing a lot on something as basic as brake pads before myself!

Are the standard mintex actually any better than OEM or are they just cheaper? Just wondering from people saying they are impressed etc? I suppose its a hard thing to judge, you will be comparing the feel of new pads against a worn set, otherwise you wouldn't be changing them.

OEM quality will vary, most (if not all) manufacturers dont make pads etc, they source them from places like Lucas, Ferrodo, Mintex etc.

I replaced the Mintex pads on my MR2 with some generic pads from my local motor factors and noticed no difference. What that says about either the Mintex pads or these generic ones I don't know... :p

Just had pads and discs changed - Still squeeks when i press brake pedal?

hi guys

just come back from having some pads and discs replaced on my avensis

Pads: Mintex - Standard
Discs - Allied Nippon - Standard

all brand new of course

on the way home, my brakes feel a lot better - pretty impressed!

but when i press the brakes hard to stop at say traffic lights i hear a squeaking noise. Pressing on the pedal lightly doesn't start the squeaking, only when i press on the brakes hard (not emergency brake style!)

is this normal on brand new pads and discs?

ive had a look at them and the pads seem to be install properly. Im wondering if there is some grease or oil on the discs and pads themselves.

going to give it a few more days of wearing in and see if it improves,

any advice?

My Ferodo DS2500 squeak but I don't care, the stopping power is immense!

Could be down to lack of copper grease.
