So, for Harry Potter fans, we now have a release date... *NO SPOILERS*

No, but anyone posting spoilers like spoon did when the last book was released, solely to ruin the storyline for people, will be suspended for as long as I remain annoyed, and I'm still pretty annoyed from the last time ;)

Ah kk kool, mabie spoon was the one who stole the scripts of the last book? :o

Definitely good news for me. I'm organising a children's walking holiday in the Alps starting on 21st July, and if it's anything like previous hoildays there will be about 25 children there, most in age range 10-15.

Keeping them occupied in the evenings is always the hardest part.

Two years ago, a Harry Potter book was released on the start day of the holiday, and everyone turned up with a copy, having bought it in the departure lounge of the UK airport. Even four people from one family had a copy each.

I'll probably get a copy myself. But the best news is that the evenings are now sorted. :)

Tbh i thought the films were good as ive never read the books .. well last book i read was mcbeth at school 11 years ago :o

Albus Dumbledore has never been satisfactorily played in the films. Michael Gambon's Dumbledore is nothing even close to the calm sense of power that comes across in the books. Richard Harris was better, I think, but definitely didn't give off the "great sense of energy" described in the books. Michael Gambon is at least energetic, thinking about it.

Maggie Smith as McGonnagal and Robbie Coltrane as Hagrid are both perfectly cast. I can't imagine anyone else being in the roles. The same goes for David Thewlis as Remus Lupin and to a lesser extent, but still very well cast, Gary Oldman as Sirius Black.

I totally agree i have always said the new dumbledore is a complete miscast. He acts more of a crazy eccentric loon than the "calm sense of power".

Don't forget snape, i think he is well cast and played.

Anyway any theories on whats going to happen? I reckon harry is the final horcrux and will have to die before snape kills voldemort pow!!!!

JKR has always said that after book 7, there will be no more Harry Potter books. If this is the case, how can the story (life) of Harry Potter finish at 17 years old, unless he does die??

Anyway, I've got my copy pre-ordered :D.

Cos each book was a school year. This was always the plan, when he finishes at Hogwart's its the end of the series :)

My thoughts aswell, i think it would be really supid imo if harry died at the end :/ i dont see a point to the stories otherwise lol

I know that, but because it's the end of this "series" it doesn't mean there can't be another "series" of Potter books, perhaps as he grows up, works for the ministry of magic etc... What I meant was that JKR has said there will be no more Harry Potter books, no more series, so something substantial has got to happen to conclude this series as well as concluding the story of Harry Potter. For me, the clearest way to do this is for HP to die, or even worse, turn into a muggle and have no recollection of the wizard world.
Anyway, we'll just have to wait and see!! :)

wooo hooo, had it preordered at a well known brazilian site previously for just over £13, now the date's been made official the price went down to £9 i think, so canceled my preorder and repreordered it (is that even a word) can't wait i bet harry and voldomort die!

That makes no sense at all.
Sorry, please let me know which bit you don't follow.

I know that
= In reference to your original reply.

because it's the end of this "series" it doesn't mean there can't be another "series" of Potter books
= If Harry survives, there is no reason why other books about him can not be written.

perhaps as he grows up, works for the ministry of magic etc...
= further Harry Potter stories could be about these things.

What I meant was that JKR has said there will be no more Harry Potter books, no more series
= Trying to explain what I meant in my original post: JKR has said on several occasions that there will be no more Harry Potter books. Not a single one. She has also said that she understands why authors kill off main characters to prevent other authors writing spin-offs.

so something substantial has got to happen to conclude this series as well as concluding the story of Harry Potter.
= To conclude the Harry Potter series of stories so that no other follow on stories can be written, I'd guess that JKR has got to have such an ending that all loose ends are tied up and there is no reason or excuse for more books.

For me, the clearest way to do this is for HP to die, or even worse, turn into a muggle and have no recollection of the wizard world.
= IMO, this is the most obvious choice of ending which would mean that there are no more Harry Potter books.

I hope that's better. Looking back now, it's clear you didn't understand my original post either.

molinari, I understood your points :) I was saying that I don't agree and that it'd be a poor way for the books to end, and that your logic doesn't make much sense :)

Hurrah the end of Harry Potter 'Thank gawd for that', the end is insight for those of us, for which it far from floats boats!!

Did you know that there is a way for it to end for you even more quickly? Its called not reading the books, not seeing the films and not coming into threads where people are discussing the HP books.

And to add to the discussion earlier, I think that Harry will die fighting Voldemort. Firstly, Harry is not an amazingly powerful wizard compared to Voldemort and whenever the two have met previously, Harry has only just managed to escape so it would be a bit rubbish if he was suddenly able to destroy him. Secondly, "they all lived happily ever after" is such a terrible ending :p and it leaves loose ends.

Though if he does die, they will try to make it a happy ending i.e. he is reunited with Sirius, Dumbledore and his parents in the afterlife.
