Sounds likely, friction on the belt would warm it up - take it off and see how freely it turns

Yep, I'll do it tomorrow. I don't see how it'd have got so warm so quickly otherwise. As it happens I have a spare set of new belts so It's an excuse to change it anyway

Finally had time to take both the power steering and alt belts off today. They both turned fine. Started it up... exactly the same. Next up, water pump and cambelt idler pully!

Well, that'll be the last time for a while.. getting down to the cam belt and friends is 'fun'. I really didn't want to have to do it
