So i hear PC gaming piracy is destroying the gaming community...

Indeed....its more difficult for the average gamer to hack and pirate a console, in comparison to a PC game.

But it does happen, with plenty of people with hacked Xbox's, PS3's and Nintendo Wii's running pirated games.

The average people generally have someone who knows a guy who'll flash/chip it for them.
That person then usually gives out his 1 copy of games to multiple thing.
Hence why piracy figures on console are always skewed.

Console games sell more even with piracy PC gets blamed for everything low game sales wise

The publishers/developers know console game in general sell a lot more probably 50/1 on most games but as the initial sales figures are high they ignore the piracy element but I guarantee next gen consoles will not play 2nd hand used console games & have always online DRM for sure ;)

Oh man, not this topic again...

Piracy will NEVER end, its here to stay, its probably getting worse due to the internet becoming faster and cheaper and if it was such a big deal then we wouldnt have any music, movies or games at all because the creators dont have any money. Obviously this isnt the case and we are still getting AAA music, movies and games.

I don't think those numbers really mean anything anyway, as I would assume most console piracy is via a supplier selling copies on to others.

console games are much easer for pirates to crack as the DRM is always the same once it's done once it's just a case of get one disk and boom jobs done.

pc cracking takes a little more time due to all the different/new systems.

The 3175 is the amount of people who have downloaded in the last 22 hours.

Not really the point I was making. I'm saying that most PC games are pirated by an individual downloading the game themselves from a site such as that and each download more or less translates to one pirated copy. Whereas, (and I am guessing as I am old now and don't bother with console games :P ) pirate console games are downloaded by a single individual (hence one logged download on the site) then copied and distributed by them to a number of people, i.e., kids who don't know how to download a game etc.

In summary, many of those logged downloads translates to many more pirated copies. This was the case when I was younger, maybe it isn't now?

Yes more people downloaded the Xbox version but as a total % of sales it's much much lower because the console versions sell far more so it's easier to accommodate. Pretty simple really

I dont see the problem. Like above posters have said The Avengers has broke box office records and games like Cod keep on breaking gaming records. There was a piece on the web few days ago accounting for all pirated camera copies of the avengers which resulted in about 0.5% of revenue....its hardly causing them to go bankrupt!

Ill be perfectly honest i have downloaded a game or two and a song etc but ive also supported and brought great games i enjoy. If id have paid for somthing like...Duke Nuken Forever which was £40...i would have broke down like a little girl and cried!

Fifa, COD, BF's, Fallout, Uncharted etc and Rockstar games i support because i do enjoy them and enjoy multiplayer wether that be on PC or Console.

As for films, if it didn't cost £20 for 2 to go see a 90 min film, I would go to the cinema more often.

For games though, support the developers! Behind the sales monkeys is a dedicated team who are most of the time, (excluding your usual CoD/fifa ect ect copy and paste tripe) really excited and enthused by making a good game.

The reason it costs that much is because of piracy.

That doesn't stop the games from being pirated. One of my friends got a wii for his boy, and stuck hundreds of games on a HDD for him to play. Known several people with modded xboxes that run pirated discs.

I know, what I mean was. When you hear game developers talk about piracy they always point at the PC. They don’t mention anything about modded Wii’s/360/PS3, PSP custom firmware and 3DS/DS running flash cards and how piracy is a problem there. Instead of admitting they had lack of sales due to their game being rubbish or they set their sales expectations too high, they blame the platform it was released on. PC they blame piracy, consoles they blame the 2nd hand market.
