So I just rescued a bluetit from the jaws of my cat...

Conciser yourself lucky that it's not bringing rabbits into the house. Mice and voles are the smallest prey we get now. Even the occasional snake.

Kind of unrelated but almost every day I save 1 and sometimes 2 cats from the destructiveness of my Lurcher & Back up power in the form of a staffy, the cats seem to love getting in my shed for a nice quiet place from the owner and her kid and see's the dog as a massive threat to the point it's too freighten'd to defend themselfs and stand there stiff. Saying all this an I don't even like cats that much but the missus would kill me shortly after too...

It's a horrible situation isn't it and about the only time I think it would be a good idea to have a rifle of some sort...quick, clean and at a distance.

I have an air pistol (named The Euthaniser) that gets used for point-blank dispatching the animals my cats maul beyond saving.

They caught a mouse a couple of days back, and I put it out of its misery as its leg was hanging off and it was bleeding from its bum area. It did a full-on Pulp Fiction style head explode, spraying the walls of the bucket it was in.

I used to bash them on a rock in a bag, but not since I did it to a sparrow that took several full-pelt whacks and looked back at me with an expression as if to say "Why...?". :(

Can you give me a pointer to that pistol?

Oh - and would it see off rabbits?

Fit a bell to your cat's collar or, better still,a few small bells (my Aunty had a cat who figured out how to science it when it just had one and wanted to sneak up on wildlife).

Had a cat a little while back. It picked up some starling, broke its wing and leg if I seem to remember. had to put it out of its misery by hitting it over the edge of the garden wall, Not very pleasant to say the least. specially when it did the whole exorcist thing after by twisting its head around and looking at me after it died. :(

I hate cats. They are the only other species of animal on the planet that kill other living creatures for fun and not for food.

It's hardly "natural" or "the circle of life" if we introduce cats into an environment that the rest of the creatures living in aren't prepared for.

Not natural at all and evil the way they torment other animals, typically by maiming them.

Que cat lovers say its is natural ;)

It's a Beeman P17 (the same as the Weihrauch HW40). Rabbits - not likely. You'd need a pistol nearer the legal limit for that, the Crosman 1377 should do it at point blank with no trouble. It's about 2.5 times the power of the Beeman/Weihrauch.

Tbh, if it was very young, I would have left it to the cat as long as he wasn't "playing" with it, if he was going to get it over and done with it'd be kinder than letting it sit at the bottom of a tree and die of the cold tonight if its mother doesn't take it back :(

At the end of the day, it's a blue ***, not an endangered species, circle of life, hakuna matata, Elton John and all that.....

Exactly, they are stupid animals.

thanks - looking at getting that Crosman.

Funny enough my other half is an anaesthetist. She keeps promising to help me set up a little euthanasia station but that's still a dream as gas would be my favoured method.
