Howdy,

I never really post in here (think I posted my Dads Lancia but that's it) but I have my test on Monday :( and if I pass I am going to need to buy a car. Your going to have to bare with me here cause I know nothing about cars.

I'm currently driving in the family's Daihatsu Sirion which I quite like but the problem I have with cars is I am quite small so have to move the seat nice and close. With the Daihatsu everything is then all in my face and cramped which is quite annoying.

I think I have been learning to drive in a Peugeot 307 and it's quite a roomy car. But here I am talking about cars I can't afford. I have a budget of about £2700 but that has to pay for EVERYTHING. So insurance and anything else.

So just wondered if anyone can help me where I should start. Cause I don't have a clue. :p

Cheers

18 year old new driver insurance + Focus = much more than £2700.

Yeh that's another thing. If anyone is kind enough to help me out I'm going to need a price on what I should be looking at and a guess on how much insurance is going to be.

Sound advice. But it's OK as all that money is to go towards a car and insurance. Anything after that (hoping it's not a massive amount) and I can use some other money I have in another account. Basically I'm spending all the cash in my savings account which was to go towards a car.

The thing is I'm not the type of person who wants a crap first car and then keep saving money and buying another after another. I already had a car (Polo VW Fox) that was given to me by parents but it's just not suitable for me. Keeps breaking down and it's very hard to drive. No power steering and 4 gears. When you have been learning in a 307 it's very hard to drive a car like the Polo. I'm just to weak to turn the damn wheel.

I would rather just have a nice car that will get me from A to B quite comfortably. Obviously though that comes with money. So it's basically "what can I get for my money".

Cheers for the advice guys. Keep it coming.

Awesome :p

A old mate (became a boy racer) has this car. Looks really nice inside with the wood panels

However it does look quite nice. But so does the 306. So are you guys saying it should be possible for me to buy these cars (only 1 lol) and get insured for < £3000. I can't find any small litre ones. My Dad says that a bigger liter engine 1.4 + is going to be way to expensive or the insurance company wont even insure me.

you will probably scratch it up in some way.

You trying to say I'm a crap driver? Who the hell do you think you are coming in here saying I'm a crap driver.

lol. Styles you have had more cars than I have computer games.

Well it's late now so will come back to this thread tomorrow and have a better look online

all new drivers are crap since we are new... we dont have the experience that peolpe have been driving for a long time have, so we are likely to scrape our cars.

I saw your original response. Styles is a mate of mine lol. I was only messing :)

Ugh I'm such a n00b at this.

All I'm doing is going on Autotrader and looking up cars that people have mentioned.

Ford Escort. Why did anyone even mention that lol. I found a really nice 1996 FORD ESCORT LX 16. But because I am a fool I didn't realise its means 1.6. So I go on elephant and get a quote. £3300.

I have to stop clicking pictures of nice cars. :p

Right I'm going to stop looking on Autotrader now. There's not many cars in a 40 mile distance from me in my budget.

One car I did find link

Oh BTW I know I shouldn't be fussy. But colours of cars you won't see my driving in. Red, White, Green (dark greens ok).

Dark colours are better. They don't show up the dirt as easily. lol

Yeh I will be going on my own insurance. Probably do that pass plus thing as well. Will have a look online and in the papers tomorrow then I guess.

AHhhhhh I still can't find one. I have my eye on the 214 but down here they just dont sell the decent SLi models.

Ok so let's hear your recommendations. I'm after a car like the 214, not some tiny small thing like a clio or anything square in shape. I have about £1300 to spend.

have you tryed directline for insurance ?

they are doing 0 % when you pay monthly at the moment

http://www.directline.com/motor/welcome.htm

a bit easier being able to pay £100 a month or whatever, than finding the whole £1200 in one go.

The fact every other industry apart from the motor insurance industry lets you pay by direct debit instead of having to be "loaned" the money is another matter, but at least one company is moving in the right direction.

Will be going with them because I save about £150 because we have house insurance with them. Getting quotes of £1300 for a 214.
